Hi, so here's my problem:

I'm building my first module for NWN. I have everything built: starting area, waypoint, transitions, etc. The module is saved. However, when I click on "Test Build", the toolset window minimizes and I'm back at the desktop screen. The game doesn't automatically load.

What's even more weird is that when I start the game separately and try to find my module under "Other Modules", it's not listed. In fact, I can't even find the file at all when I do a file search of my HD (I was thinking maybe the file was in the wrong directory, but I can't even find it on my computer!)

Btw, I'm running Windows 7 if that makes a difference. The game is running under compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Has anyone else run into this issue? Is there something obvious that I'm missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
It sounds like you have the game installed in Program Files directory, that would totally cause similar issues. Or maybe short on harddrive space?
Can you recover the game in the toolset?

My game testing ability doesn't work either. I'm in Windows 7. I have to open it manually.

- Be sure to install not in program files.
- The file will be found in <NWNINSTALLDIRECTORY>/modules/<filenname>.mod
Sure your looking for the right name? maybe you've accidentally named your module something else? it should me in your modules folder.

The problem will be solved quite easily acually. First of you gotta make sure you can see hidden files. Then you will find the modules in your "appdata" map. After that go to the map called "Virtual Store" then the "GOG.com" map. In it you will find your modules.

This is where I found mine while using Windows7 and I installed the game in "program files" meaning I sinned twice so too speak. But as I said before it can be solved without having too uninstall all your shit.

I turned off the hidden folders but I still don't know where to look. I don't see an "appdata" or "virtual store" folder anywhere, and my mods are not in the GOG folder. I am having the exact same problem as the OP

I'd just get the program out of Program Files. It causes too many issues.

If you're not installed in Program Files then your module is in: <NWNINSTALLDIRECTORY>/modules/<filenname>.mod

If you are having trouble when clicking on "Testing," then that may just be a problem you have to live with. I can't make my "test" work either. You just have to save your module, boot up NWN, start a new single player game and select "other module" (or something like that). The list of modules will show up and your game should be in there.

If it's not in there and you're not installed in My Documents or My Programs or Windows folder, then save a new module as a low-character name (like 3kix.mod) and then do a windows search (for 3kix.mod) and see if you can locate it.

Do a search for your modules filename and back it up. If you are using custom haks, overrides, modules, and/or tlk files back them up as well. Uninstall NWN and reinstall it. Make sure you're not putting it in the Program Files directory. Install the game directly to your hard drive. The correct path to the installed directory should simply be...

C:\NeverwinterNights

Note that the NeverwinterNights directory is empty except for another directory called NWN. This is where the actual game files are located. Move your backed up module file to the Modules folder in the NWN directory. If you have any other backed up files move them into the appropriate folders as well (.hak into "hak", .tlk into "tlk", .mod into "modules" and any overrides into "override") .

Original game was installed in C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\

Like others have said your install from GOG should be C:\Neverwinter Nights Diomand Edition\
