I am playing the campaign in NWN1 and I am supposed to get an item from Aarin Gerd. The problem is he is fighting Ayala and I can not get them to stop. While he is fighting I can not talk to him and get the diplomatic pass. Any help would be appreciated.

First of all, it's Alaya. That matters because Ayala is an NPC in Shadows of Undrentide so I was very confused for a moment.

How the heck did you get them to start fighting in the first place? I've never even heard of this.

Both of them are marked as plot as well, so they're invulnerable and ignore people attacking them.

I do not know how they started fighting, I just used the stone of recall to get to the temple, and everyone was fighting. Killed off my henchman who never has respawned since then.

In 14 years of playing NWN, I have never encountered or even heard of this issue before.

Do you have an earlier save you can load? Go back in time a bit? See if that fixes it?

Attack one of them with your fists, which makes him do an attack of opportunity on you and likely make you his target. Then, let him chase you around the room, without him being able to make an attack, for more than one combat round. Then turn around and initiate conversation, which will interrupt/terminate combat because it is between friendlies.

There's an alternative, ~DebugMode 1 and press . (period)
This brings up a miniature DM menu that allows you to do rather forceful stuff to NPCs.

Well, I tried the unarmed attack on both of them, and they ignored me.

Then maybe you'd have to use the DM menu, as I mentioned- see if toggling off the guys' AI works, first. Failing that, you could walk outside and teleport one of them out there, or as a last resort, you could remove alaya's invulnerability and zap him (since Gend is essential).
