When I go to create a character for NWN 1 the character screen where you actually customize your character's avatar is black. You can see the sliders and the trays for your skin color, but the actual avatar is just not there. I hoped it was just a minor glitch so I kept on playing, but the cutscene is blacked out. Even worse is that the blacked out screen carries over to the beginning gameplay, and the only way to fix that is to hit the windows button (I have windows 8) and then click the game icon on the tray on the bottom of the screen. Now, that usually worked, but as stubborn as I am, I wanted to see the cutscene (naturally, in-game, and not on youtube) but a new glitch arose, all characters are invisible; you, the guy that walks up to you as you leave your room, and any other npcs. I read on the support page that you can just turn on your catalyist AI (I have AMD drivers, ugh) but I can't find that anywhere in the CCC menu, not even on advanced view.

Did you install the 1.69 critical rebuild? Ignore whatever the GoG site claims, install it if you haven't.

Also, if anything you want to DISABLE the Catalyst AI, AMD drivers don't play well with NWN.
I had the same issue, the fix in the support section didn't help either.

If you're using Win7, try disabling desktop composition for the game.

If you don't know where that is, right-click the games shortcut, select Properties and then the Compatibility tab. I set it to WinXP SP3 compatibility, disabled visual themes and desktop composition, and set it to run as administrator.

The intro movie now plays when I start a new game (not from the movies section in the menu for some reason), characters are visible with "environmental mapping on creatures" turned on and "enable shiny water" is now selectable.

Also, disable catalyst AI doesn't appear to be an option in the newer drivers, I don't have it available anymore either.

I have Win8 so I think I don't have the disabled visual themes and desktop composition options you mentioned, or at the least, I can't seem to find them.

Do you know if the Critical Rebuild is compatible with the Community Patch?
Well, I tried everything mentioned here, but sadly, nothing works. Any other suggestions?
Edit: I also tried disabling the Catalyst AI, but that actually made it a bit worse at first. The game began to play the cutscene, but then it stopped and the whole entire game flashed in and out of game mode and desktop mode.

Sorry for yet another post in a row by me on this topic, but I somehow managed to fix it. After I did what this forum: http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=454&threadid=171537 said to do (the post by "stumped"), I decided to disable the "environmental mapping on creatures" option, and somehow, someway, this worked. Cutscenes work, the characters are visible, the opening logos don't flicker, everything works and I am pretty confused by it. For some reason, I still can't enable the shiny water though. Thanks for the replies though.

Not a problem. And yes, the Critical Rebuild is compatible with everything though I frankly don't recommend using the Community Patch.

The author calls it a community patch but it's simply a patch he did with some help from others, it's not a widely recognized official thing or anything. Mostly minor bug fixes and some balance chances per his whims, you really likely won't even notice NOT having it.

In other words, only use it if you're sure it's something you want. It probably won't mess anything up for you but it also probably won't help with anything significant.
