When I start the game and gets to customization in the character development I have all the tools and buttons but no picture. If I just accept and start the game there is no character (he is invisible.) I have an AIT/Radeon 6450 card and have turned Catalyst A.I on I think (I have tried all settings). In some of the settings the buttons disappear but that is about it. Any clues or fixes for this?

See if you can beat support ;)

Edit I have the community patch installed

ATI cards have in the past caused problems. I'm no expert on those issues.

Assuming it's not a graphics card problem, then I'd suspect the community patch and/or the installing is at fault.

See if you can keep selecting other heads. Will any of them show up? Do other NPCs show up in the game? If so, I strongly think it's the patch's fault.

Be sure to do all the standard stuff -- install in a non-protected space (like not C:\Program Files\ or Windows or My Documents, etc).

This sort of thing happens in multiplayer games where someone has the patch but another client doesn't have it. Players show up missing heads and arms and whatnot to the client without the patch. So that makes me feel like maybe some of the patch installed correctly and some not.

I'd recommend some reinstallation of the whole lot. And try it first without the community patch to see if that is where the problem lies.

If the patch is the problem, I'd recommend redownloading and reinstalling. There's probably a glitch in the install.

If it's not the community patch, then try redownloading and reintsalling NWN.

If that doesn't fix it, then I have no idea.

OK did a complete redownload and reinstall without the community Patch no dice the NPCs are missing as well and the sound of the voices is like in a can. so its not the patch and not the installation or dl I have tried all th fixes suggested with the graphics card I am stomped
Edit fixed the sound in game by fiddling but still no go on the character

That almost has to be graphics card, I think.

Did you check out these links?

Note some of the comments after, like unchecking "enable environment shadows on characters"

I tried that too plus I changed the resolution + tried disabling or enabling all the different settings to no avail
And safemovie = 1 ini line?

Tallima: And safemovie = 1 ini line?
thing is when I do a search for safemovie in the ini it doesn't show anything so where to write it?
As I read it that was for when the game broke down on start up though?

Otherwise, you could try other drivers, I guess. But I'm outside of my realm of knowledge now for sure. All my similar problems had to do with CEP.

That's all for me today. I'll be AFK for a day. Peace!

You write it in. Anywhere in the ini file. Just write:

safemovie = 1

then save the file.

You may need to get into file properties and set it from Read-Only or Write-Protect to a normal mode.

Yeah, I think you're right. I'd look for all kinds of ini settings and start playing with those. Or keep seeing if anyone else has ideas. Have a good night!

SirEyeball: CEP?
Community Expansion Pack (or Patch?). Probably either what you have or something similar.

I fixed my invisible character by disabling Enviroment Mapping on Creatures, found in advanced video options
I run the game in compatibility mode for XP SP3
Disable visual themes
Disable desktop composition
My resolution set for the game is 1920x1080
(win 7 x64)
My card AMD Radeon HD 7870
