I bought the game and as far as I know have the same GOG version as everyone else.

I have installed the same GOG version on two computers and get a CD Key error.

Do I need to buy the game from GOG again. Or do I need to buy it from another source?

Or is there a way for us to play together now?

Unfortunately, the way the game is set up, each player needs a unique CD key in order to play multiplayer (even LAN). This isn't something that GOG can do anything about, so it means that each player must buy a separate copy of the game (and since GOG provides a generic key with the game, you'll need to request your multiplayer keys from GOG).
Shouldn't it be enough for LAN play to request a multiplayer key from GOG and then change just one of the installed copies' keys to the new one? Then you'd have two different keys, should be enough for LAN, if it doesn't automatically block LAN with the default GOG key... :)

Worth a try, but I doubt it. I believe the game checks for the key for the latest expansion being used by the player (in the case of the GOG release, that would be HotU).

I believe that he said to have one computer use the generic keys that shiped with the game and have the other computer use the keys that are recived by requesting keys. Since it is a local game there should be no problem with using the generic keys on one of the computers.

Hmm, now that could work. Again, worth trying. Worst case scenario is it doesn't work and he's back to square one.

That's exaclty what i was trying to say. :)
OK so after I request a multiplayer key, can I use that on one of the machines and then use the generic on the other?

Or how do I buy the game again?

Try this first. If it doesn't work, then...

you can buy the game as a gift and just send the code to yourself via another e-mail addy.
Please let us know if it works. This approach has been suggested several times and as far as I know, no one has reported back wether it worked or not.
Will this work? Any updates? I know this is an old thread, but 3 of us are trying to figure out how to get this to work on LAN.

We do have a couple of old retail copies laying around, in case we need to put those keys in instead, but playing on our GOG copies... :(

Also, does anyone know how to get this to work over Hamachi so we don't have to muck about with Port Forwarding etc?

Yes, It will work. Each copy will need a different CD-Key. Port Forwarding on a LAN? You should not have to worrie about that with a LAN. You will want to make sure that every computer is using its own client port though.

CDKeys are stored in nwncdkey.ini. But if you change them the premimum modules will stop working.
Thanks, that did the trick.

And yes, we noticed we can't play some of the premium modules now.

Oh well, we all backed up the 'default' GOG nwncdkey file. Just means we can't play those particular modules together and will have to switch the files around when we do play together.

Thanks for the response!
