Does anyone know how NWN awards XP?

Is it awarded soley for combat, or can you gain it for passing speech checks, picking locks, quests, etc.?

I'm pretty sure you get XP for speech checks. Not sure about everything else, though I think you would.
You could check a NVN wiki or something for that.
You get XP for completing quest, deactivating traps, and I believe for picking locks. but I rarely played rogues so I don't really remember if you do or not.
That really depends a lot on how the module was built.

If you are talking about the original game I guess you get XP for combat and completing quests.

I don't think XP for locks or traps is a standard thing...but it can definately be the case in some of the player made modules out there....

Yip, rogue skills don;t get you XP in the Bioware modules. You need community modules or PWs for that. I can't remember if the Bioware games give you XP for social skills or not sorry. It's been a long time since I played them. I remembert he OC only cares about persuade, and you certainly get more gold reward from quests by having a high persuade... If there was an XP award as well i don';t remember but I don't think so.. at least not in the OC. In SoU and HoTU it is more possible but again...

In a way it is best to think of the modules made by Bioware as examples of what can be done with the toolset. The toolset was actually the original product concept ... and module builders and PW builders have made it do completely amazing things.

If you perhaps want to RP a rogue who talks and sneaks and detraps their way and gets XP for it all then there are SP modules on the vault for you. If you want to join a rogue guild then there are PWs out there for you. Links

Have fun :)
