The original version had some serious bugs in the AddOn. And last i checked (long time ago) those were not fixed and the fixpacks were generally a mess to install, so i wondered how bad is the situation atm beyond the "it's playable", thx.

I played a few months ago and had not problem with the game except for a resolution bug the game has, but that is an easy fix.
Launch the game.
Press Alt+Enter in order to switch between full-screen and windowed mode.
Change in-game screen resolution.
Press Alt+Enter again to play full-screen with the selected resolution.

and I also install the "Tchos' HD UI panels and dialogue compilation and expansion" to improve the menus and stuff.
But the game is fully playable and I've only ever experienced 1 bug.

Some of them haven't been updated in a while. I remember having to edit them manually to make them work back in the 2̶0̶0̶6̶ day, and was not looking forward to do this again haha. But it looks like it will at least work.

Resolution bug.

Unable to resize text and interface items for larger resolutions.

Camera is a complete mess, I had to read a guide on the best way to set it up and I still fight with it all the time.

Map is stretched out and looks like crap.

The pathfinding is bad as usual.

The AI is absolutely bottom tier and one of the most frustrating things to deal with.

Oh and if you leave your computer up too long you get a nice little stuttering bug.

I love the game itself but I'm tired of having to fight the damn game every time I want to play. I say stay far away from this one.

None of those is necessary, and is more about changing the game to be more to the liking of the authors.

I'd suggest playing vanilla game with one fix:

Just drop the DLL here in your game directory. It fixes the stutter that can occur in game if Windows is running for a long time.

I have played hundreds of hours with just that one fix. All the included modules and campaigns multiple times without encountering a show stopping bug.
