When I press the Play button on the pre-game menu, I get a black square with the symbol on it. That stays on my screen for 30 seconds, then the program exits. Any advice on how I resolve this issue?

I had the same problem, are you running the game on windows 7 or Vista?

Only way for me to get it working is to run the game directly by starting the correct .exe file in the game directory. Launching the game from the launch-menu never worked for me :(

Try to right click the icon on the desktop and select "run as administrator". It worked for me on windows 7 :-)
