I am thinking of soloing the game as a rogue/mutliclass? and i need some advice on it. Ive soloed bg2 and bg1 with minor problems and i want to solo nwn. I dont really like playing with a party as they ruin my sneaking ability and its no fun altogether. Plus its cool being a one man commando.

I want to make a rogue character that wields a rapier and shoots a longbow, might even set some traps for the bigger fights. Do you have to use 2 weapons or can you just get by with 1? I am going to maximise sneak attack with possibly a ranger with 7 levels so he gets an animal companion.

I would make an all melee rogue but i dont think solo and melee rogue go well in the same sentence :)

Any thoughts on this. I want to have 1 or the other.
The first time I played through the OC. It was solo. I played a Fighter/thief/shadowdancer.
The shadow dancer and and High UMD was a blessing at the end of the game.

UMD= Use Magical Device.
Ive finally decided, im going to do a barbarian/rogue mix with a shield and a rapier. Ill stay with a party and be a sneaky tank.in combat. Does anyone know if uncanny dodge skills stack with rogue and barb?

Nah, that's a feat, getting them twice from both sources do not give additional bonuses.

Do note, you'll be having low (will) saving throws with that build, so you'll be spending a lot of time running away from scary opponents unless you get some magic items to help. Something to give immunity to fear would be a godsend.
I kind of like the companions in the game myself but, to each their own eh?

With all of the magical equipment you can find in the game you can solo with most builds without too many problems.

You can check out the old Bioware boards (The ones they had when they were with Atari) for some great build ideas.

An unusual combo IMO for the exact reasons you have noticed... many superfluous class feats. But you do get the extra barb speed, extra HPs, better attack and the barb raging if you like the boost to some abilities. Keep in mind that the heavier the armor/shield, the more adverse the effect on your sneaking skills will be, but you probably already knew that, eh? ;)

The only issue I see is that you won't be able to maximize both your bowmanship and rapier melee attack equally without taking weapon finesse and building high Dex. Otherwise, it should provide lots of fun the way you have it planned.

BTW, soloing is the fastest way to gain XP, though maybe not the most fun if missing out on some of the henchman storylines and interactions.

If you're going to solo as a rogue take at least one level of shadowdancer ( if you have the expansions installed). Hide in Plain Sight is invaluable.
The companions aren't really that helpful in the first game anyway, especially the OC and it's often easy to play without them, so soloing shouldn't be too much of an issue. My paladin sometimes had one, and sometimes did not, and often did better by himself.
I have soloed the game as a single class Bard, single class Monk and single class Sorcerer.
The two expansions, one I did as a rogue, one as a Monk. It is quite do-able really.
A elven wizard-rogue multiclass may be what you're looking for. Elf b/c they get rapier & long bow as automatic proficiencies, wizard for the arcane spell buffs & no experience hit for multiclassing (b/c wizard is an elf's favoured class in 3rd edition AD&D), and rogue b/c that's the class you seek to play.

What it means soloed? :-) without companions? or? thx
I was playing with companions (the most noticeably Deekin) but when I come into situations smelling with a lot of XP I released them for a while :-[

Both times, actually. I find the companions in NWN uninteresting. First time was with a Monk, second time a Wizard. Surprisingly easy even with the Wizard. I probably should have raised the difficulty sooner.

Yes, playing through without using any companions/hirelings.
