In the past couple of days, GameSpy appears to have dropped all Neverwinter Nights servers from their lists.

In order to fill this gap and unless or until another solution can be found, I have started a server listing site located at http://nwnserverlists.boards.net

The site will show either an IP address or a URL for the server. Either of these may be entered into the Direct Connect dialogue in the game along with the port number (if not standard) to allow you to connect to the server.

The format will be either 192.168.1.2:5121
or MyNWNServer:5122

In the first case, the colon and port number are optional, since the default port is being used.

Server owners may contact me using the details on the forum to have their nwn server listed.

I hope that a better workaround can be found for this problem, or even better that gog.com will be able to have the GS list restored.

I will continue to operate and update the forum until and unless something better comes along.

Melkior_King: In the past couple of days, GameSpy appears to have dropped all Neverwinter Nights servers from their lists.
Just to echo Melkor_King's comments, this in NO WAY affects a player's ability to play on Neverwinter Nights online servers. It just means that players need a different place to go to find out which servers are available and some more information about them.

Servers are still live and players are still playing them. And, the strong and vibrant NWN community is rallying to create solutions that might actually be better than what GameSpy was offering.

Here's what to expect and what to do to play online:
1) When you launch NeverwinterNights to play and click on the "Multiplayer" button and after you create your login through the game, you'll see an "authorizing Player Name" popup followed shortly by a "Could not connect to Master Server, some multiplayer serves may not be available." screen.
2) Click 'ok'.
3) Click 'Join Internet Game'
4) A window will open up to a tab "Internet". This will be blank, since this is what GameSpy has stopped supporting. If this is your first time, all the other tabs will be blank as well.
5) To find an online server to join, you will use a community resource website (such as the one that Melkior_King identifies above, but this may change) to find out the 'Direct Connect" address for a server that interests you.
6) Click on the 'Direct Connect" button in NWN and input that address into the 'Server IP Address". Most servers don't require passwords, but if yours does, input that here too.
7) Voila! You'll be logged in, soon to be slaying dragons!

That process is not substantially different than what you had to do to log into a server anyway. It's just now you need to know which server you want to go to.

Returning that server is even easier once you log-in for the first time. In step 4 above, open up the "History" tab instead, which will display the servers you have visited that have the same IP address. From that screen you can launch the game.

If the IP of your server changes, then you will need to find out the new one (usually from the server's website).

Hope this helps!

Also, if you run a server, it's always a good idea to post the IP address for direct connecting on your website and/or forum.
Also, XFIRE still has a list of NWN Servers on it. Xfire gets their list from players that join the server, so it has nothing to do with Gamespy.
Updating the above information: The NNW community is working on solutions and it looks hopeful that we will have replacements for both the master and gamespy servers early next year.

Your game will not use these alternate servers by default. You will need to either use a "patch" program to update your copy of the game, or edit your "hosts" file to redirect the game's requests to the alternate servers.

A community-made patch is on the way. The alternate servers are not yet fully functional but the alternate master server is using the login information from servers to populate a web page:
http://www.nwnlist.com/

The Bioware community forums have more information.

Board admins: I suggest you sticky this thread.
