Perhaps this will be of use to some of you. Guide to Installing NWN1 for Win7

Make sure safemovie = 1 in nwnplayer.ini if you have trouble with movies.

Make sure you have the latest drivers, especially sound drivers as they are often a cause of 'apparent' video issues.

Good Luck :)
I had to change the resolution from some preposterous value to what I wanted in nw.ini file. Also, safemovie=1 resolved glitchy sound issue in videos.

The game is still crap. :P

If you don't like the adventure that comes with it go to nwvault and get a different one to play. there's over 4000! Reviewed modules . Hall of Fame

Have fun :)

Kezardin: - ATI 5870 cards may cause problems with NWN, as can Catalyst 10.2 drivers.
Great.. is there no way to work around this?

I can't finde the safemovie line in the nwnplayer.ini file. Do I have to add it myself?

check you are editing the right file. You want nwn.ini But if it is not there add it yourself yes.
Under [Display Options] add "SafeMovie=1" (without the quotes)

Good Luck :)
Ah, yes, I see it. I don't know what I thought it was the other file.. However, I can't edit it (using notepad) :/

If you are running Windows Vista or 7, you cannot edit any files in the Program Files directory without elevating the program to run as an administrator.

Don't install games into Program Files if you use Vista or Win7.
If running in windows 7 try compatibility mode and run in XP sp2. After downloading the Direct X June 2010 pack on this site. It worked for me and make sure to save it as the setting for the game. Comes up everytime
same here
win7 64

crashing after the eye screen and nothing seems to work.

Correction, I right clicked on the desktop icon, and selected the properties, went to the compatibility tab and selected windows xp service pack 3, working now.

superfly2000: I'm not an expert but I would try a couple of things

(of which some already where mentioned)

1) Start the game with nwmain.exe instead

2) Run as administrator

3) You tried updating the game to version 1.69 right? (using the separate updater utility)

4) Did you install the critical rebuild patch?
http://nwn.bioware.com/support/patch.html

5) Find the ini file that controls what movies are played at the startup of the game and comment them out //

6) Run in windows XP compatbility mode (in worst case)
I tried EVERYTHING and it didn´t start... Thanks for wasting my money GOG =/

Fabiank: *snip*
...and you do NOT have the game installed in the programs folder right?

(if you have that you wont even be able to run it as administrator and in compatibility mode....)
