vv221: The "apt-get install -f" commande (with sudo on Mint) is here to install any missing dependencies. Anyway I’m not sure the mpv package is really needed as a mpv binary is already provided by the package. I’ll need to check that.

About your missing movies, can you post what you get in the console after running the "neverwinter-nights" command?

avatar
Tallima: Is there a way to open the starter screen where I can pick the Toolset and DM client? Thanks!
avatar
vv221: Hmm, I can remember no such screen with the native Linux client. But there is surely a way to add to the package a menu entry and a console command to launch them. I’ll work on that in the next days ;)
Thanks!

And here's the output:

This will be my last post for several hours, but I'll check up on this thread later today. Thanks again for all your work on these! They look like they took a lot of hours to put together. Thank you!

duapruis: Also I've launched the ./fixinstall and it gives me 1 "failed":

FAILED: chtin.key missing
Was it with the game installed via my scripts or Ganni1987’s archive?
If the former, can you paste here the return of the following commands?
tree /usr/local/share/games/neverwinter-nights
tree ~/.local/share/games/neverwinter-nights

The console log you pasted show nothing unusual…
Is the "mpv" package installed on your system?
Does it work when you use it to run a movie that works with your usual media player?
mpv /some/path/to/a/movie.mkv
-----

I can add a launcher to the DM client and server easily, but the toolset will be another matter: no native client exists for it, I’ll have to work something based on WINE for this one.
I’ll add support for it in a future version of the script, and I’ll of course give you a heads up once it’s done ;)

I'll use my PlayOnLinux install for the module, then. Thanks!

I've tried the other installation all seems to work well but when I launch the game I get the following error repeated 4 times and nothing happens:

ERROR: ld.so: object './nwmovies.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32): ignored.

Its odd because I'm pretty sure I installed all the required libraries...

Also thanks for all your time and effort.

I'll install it "your way" and post you what you've asked me in a bit.

There’s a lot of files missing from your installation, so at some point the script didn’t do its work.
I’ll try to spot what could have done this, and come back to suggest you a solution.

The .deb package should be 4~5GiB in size, I guess yours is lighter than that?

Hah! I didn't actually thought it could be that but you are true! The .deb is only 1.5GB (I SHOULD OF HAVE NOTICED THAT IN FIRST INSTANCE!) and now I notice that when i create the deb I receive this messages (among a lot of other seemingly normal ones):

Thanks, you just spotted *the* bug responsible for all this!
I copy-pasted the dependencies list from the script for the French version of the installer that uses unar to extract the game data, while the English and Spanish versions use innoextract for the extraction. I’m going to fix this right now ;)

-----

Done!
Just re-download the script and hopefully everything will go smoothly this time ;)

Après la pluie, le beau temps!

Merci beaucoup! I don't know how much to thank you about this I was starting to accept the fact that I needed to use wine to run this game.

I needed to install innoextract and now the deb is in fact 5,3GB.

Now I get a black screen but at least the game doesn't crash, it just "sits there" doing nothing, I've tried the 64 version with video, BUT it works in 64bits without videos flawlessly!

This is what the console says when I launch it on 64bits with video (after several notices):

NOTICE: NWMovies: Initialized.

I’m glad we saw it through this bug ;) Thanks for your help in finding its cause, I wouldn’t have thought about it without your posts.

I’ll go back to your NWMovies bug in a couple days, meanwhile enjoy your shiny native client for NWN ;)

Cool, cool, I'll anxiously look on this thread for updates hehe.

Oh I almost forgot, it asked me for all the CD keys of the game and its expansions on the first launch, luckily I have an old copy of the game with all of them and I had no problem. I'm pretty sure that is not an issue with your scripts but... just so that people know.

Hmm, that’s another thing it shouldn’t do… It might be linked to your previous installations of the game with my buggy version of the script.
The keys in use are registered in the file ~/.config/neverwinter-nights/nwncdkey.ini and the GOG-provided ones can be found in /usr/local/share/games/neverwinter-nights/nwncdkey.ini
Normally the first file is a copy of the second, but because of the bug we crushed today your ~/.config/neverwinter-nights/nwncdkey.ini file might have been generated from a non-valid nwncdkey.ini file.

That brings us to a particular bonus in using this script: saved games and configuration will be persistant even after multiple uninstallation/reinstallation of the game. I hope you’ll enjoy this nice little feature ;)

Oh, yeah that makes sense, I tried to make a clean installation purging everything before but the .config might have stayed there.

There are persistent files stored in the two following directories:
~/.local/share/games/neverwinter-nights/ (mostly saved games)
~/.config/neverwinter-nights/ (game keys and configuration)

They are specific to each user of your system, and won’t get deleted by the uninstallation of the game.
