Before buying NWN from GOG I've had the 3 CD-Rom version of just the original game without the expansions. Because of the expansions I bought and installed the GOG-version. It works fine and my old save-games will load, and I can walk around allright, but something strange makes me wander if it is indeed compatible with older saves:

*SPOILER WARNING*

I'm in chapter 1 and have completed the Peninsular District, but to find the tomb there is still noted in my journal as an unfinished quest. When I get to Judge Oleff, I can ask him 'tell me again what you needed from me' or something like that, and then he goes on to explain the quest to me, to start with the Peninsular tomb first and report to him any findings. Well, I have the findings in my inventory (I already did that with the older NWN install), but now I've re-installed NWN using GOG but my old saves, there's no option in the dialogue choices to tell Oleff I did found a digger's journal and three artifacts (shield, flintstone dagger and arrow), that are all in my pack but I just can't tell him and get this part of the quest marked as solved.

So I wander: are save-games of the 3CD opening campaign version not straightaway compatible with the GOG-version and do I have to start afresh? I'd hate to do the whole prison quest anew, I want to get on with new things...

I would have to look at the scripts involved.

My best guess not being able to look at them right now is that the information my be saved out to the nwn data base.

I dont think there is any compatabitly problem. If you still have your old install somewhere copy the data base folder from your old nwn folder.

If that does not work post back and when i get the time I will look at the scripts to see if i can figure out a fix for you.
Regretfully (if that's the right word in English) I haven't got the old install anymore. I did a reinstall of Windows XP when my motherboard had to be replaced and the only thing I have kept, are the savegames.

I appreciate your offer to take a look at the scripts. I'll wait till you have time for it. Thanks.
After looking over the scripts in this quest, I do not think you have anything broken with your game.

You should currently have 5 things from this quest in your inventory; The Letter from Oleff, The Halueth Dig Logbook and the three items found at the Dig(shield, flintstone dagger and arrow),

Your journal entry should be the following.

Quest State 20:
Judge Oleff of the Hall of Justice seeks the tomb of Neverwinter's founder, Lord Halueth Never, in the hopes that it might buoy the people's spirits and perhaps unearth some artifacts that might be of assistance against the Wailing.

His assistant, Briley, waits by the recently discovered tomb of Miaslaznia Fairblade, one of Halueth's adventuring companions, and tells a sad tale indeed - like so many others in the city, the entire excavation team responsible for the discovery has passed away of the Wailing Death. The only known documentation of their discovery is a journal left by one of the team members. Briley has secured it in a chest outside of Miaslaznia's tomb and has encouraged interested parties to examine it in the hopes of deciphering the possible location of other tombs. Miaslaznia's tomb can be reached via the cellars of a house on the east side of the Peninsula District.

When you talk to Olef he will reply with.
Greetings to you again, <Token >. It is good to see you return to this house of Tyr.

--I hope there has been some progress with the search for Halueth Never's tomb. It would raise the spirits of the city.

***********

If this is the state you are in. Everything is correct. There will not be any updating of the quest state or different Options to report to him until after you have found one of the artifacts.

To continue your quest hold onto the three items and reread the Halueth Dig Logbook for clues.
OK! Thanks for finding it out for me (or is that sentence more dutch than english?). It's a great relief everything is just as it should be and I can continue the adventure resting assured the quest will be solved later. No spoilers about the future of the quest please, this is my first runthrough of NWN (I'm mostly a Baldur's Gate addict). Thanks again, you've earned a reputation!
