It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I'm playing this game for a few days now and so far I love it. The only problem is that I constantely have to start from the beginning again, because when I want to continue the game tells me "No save data found".

I know that the game is flash based and so the save file mightneed cookies. Because of that I changed the settings in my browser (Firefox 34.0.5) to allow them unlimited. But the problem still appears.

Strange thing is that I sometimes can play for two or three days without any problems and the next time I have to start from the beginning three times a day. There doesn't seem to be any logic behind it.

I'm playing on a laptop (Windows Vista) for which I don't have admin rights. Can that be part of the problem?

You are mostly correct. Adobe flash player stores the savedata in temporary flash folders. Unrelated to the browser(s) you use. "System performace enhancers" clean out temporary folders on a regular basis, including flashplayers temporary store. So most likely you have some software running that deletes the flash savedata every 3-7 days or so.

Solutions, exlude flash folders from said application. Look into Neo Scavenger Save Manager. (or something like it, haven't looked for it, just read about it on the game's wiki or forums)
I have a similar problem like PaterAlf.

I allready lost 2 saves for unkown reasons and a third game lost the progress of several hours because NS crashed...

Ckecking and adjusting the sec.-options is my duty but there should be some way to save without quitting the game, may'eyal as example let you save and auto-saves at several cases...
Definitely get the Neo Scavenger Save Manager (link is elsewhere in the forums). It lets you archive up to three different saves and load them before you continue the game. This keeps your save games safe from the automatic cache clearing problems, and you don't have to start over if the game crashes or you make a bad mouse click.
A somewhat stupid question, but you don't by any chance mean that the game doesn't find a save after you've died? Because the game is a roguelike - one save only, no reloading.

Apart from that, try going to the save game folder and setting permissions (by right-clicking the folder) so that all users can do everything. My game occasionally freezes, only for me to notice a flash permissions pop-up in the background.

Thank you for asking, but I understand the nature of roguelikes very well. Permadeath isn't my problem here, it's the flash-/cookie based save system that doesn't work very well for me.

Unfortunately I can't even find the save folder. Guess that's the case, because I'm playing on a laptop for which I don't have any admin rights (folder might be hidden).

I've decided to quit the game for now (instead I started Tales of Maj'Eyal which is also a great rogulike). I will give NEO Scavenger another try when I'm back home. Guess I won't have the same problem on my own computer (and if I still have them, I will install the Save Manager).

Yup. Thats it - on my own laptop (running as admin) the AppData folder is one of those "half opacity" ones meaning it would normally be hidden.

In my case, the path was:

C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\S83MLQ2P\localhost\ - and in this case the steam directory. When playing the Humble DRM free version though, the first part was the same I'm sure.

Personally I just leave the folder open and copy over to the desktop every hour or so in play if I feel the need.

This is the annoying nature of flash games. The thing is, 4 years ago the developer had actually intended to release this as a small browser based game, where flash made sense. Good for us, he kept building it up, bad for all of us, it was too late to port from flash. So this type of things happen, and it's a real pity. I'm looking forward to his next game being on a better engine, like he stated.

Till then, here is a really detailed post that may help you both locate the saves and pinpoint what exactly periodically deletes your cookies. If you do decide to give the game another go and find such problems again, posting over there at the official forums will definitely get you some much faster help.

I lost my save game one times too many, before finding a solution, and completely lost the will to play this game in this lifetime.

The save manager doesn't protect the saves.
guys, I can't use that BAT! Once I execute it, it keeps asking me to enter the Windows User Name. I've tried typing everything and it won't let me continue('Error! User not found')! What am I doing wrong, please?

EDIT: Nevermind, solved it.

I also have issues with disappearing savegames. Turns out my browser completely wipes the Flash Player folder the game uses to store the savegame in when I close it. The .bat file savegame manager mentioned here didn't quite work for me either, so I wrote my own one! Which is a bit simpler and does not need a setup. :)

If you want to use this .bat file to backup your savegame too just create a .txt file (e.g. NEOsave.txt), open it and copy&paste the following code into it:

http://pastebin.com/vkSKakA9

Edit: You can find an improved version here:

https://www.gog.com/forum/neo_scavenger/neosave_a_batch_file_for_savegame_backups

Save your text file and rename it to .bat (e.g. NEOsave.bat). Now copy the .bat file into your NEOScavenger installation folder where the NEOScavenger.exe file is and that's it.

If you fancy you can create a shortcut of your .bat file and change its icon to the NEOScavenger one, which looks neat (right click on the shortcut/properties/Change Icon/select NEOScavenger.exe).

How this batch file works:

* It creates a folder called "NEOsave" in your NEOScavenger installation folder, which it uses to copy your savegame and settings files to. The batch file only creates this folder when it can find the NEOScavenger.exe file. Otherwise it will close with an error message.

* It looks for the NEOScavenger files in the Flash Player folder. If this folder gets wiped the game creates its files there again when it starts, but the first folder name changes every time this happens.

* If you "save" your savegame the batch file copies the savegame and settings files into the NEOsave folder.

* If you "restore" your savegame the batch file copies the savegame and settings files back into the NEOScavenger Flash Player folder. If this folder is empty or does not exist you will have to launch the game once and quit it. This creates the folder structure and its files again and then you can copy your savegame back. The batch file tells you this when it's necessary.

* You can use the batch file to start the game. That in and of itself does nothing, however when you quit the game again the batch file is still open and you can comfortably back your savegame and settings up.
