I have a copy of the DVD version, and was wondering if it'd be possible to copy the data files from that version into the GOG version and have it work.

I doubt it would work, as the cut scene video formats in the CD version (which GOG is using) and the DVD version (e.g. 10th Anniversary DVD) are different. Hence the game needs at least different codecs. So it probably won't work out of the box, even if this is the only difference.

I ended up deciding to get a GOG copy of Riven anyway and tried out replacing them. It actually worked. I replaced the entire data folder with the one from the DVD and edited the config file a bit. When I ran it, it now had the newer videos. Starts off with an Ubi Soft log instead of a Red Orb Entertainment One. Game seems to be working fine at least in the first couple areas, and it runs far better than just the DVD.
Nice, it's always best to try first hand ;-)
Thanks for the feedback!
Having now fully played through the game, everything runs fine except for two little things. The first is that you can't actually load a saved game from the menu screen. This isn't really that big of a deal since you can still load saves in game. The other issue is that one video doesn't work. Specifically when you bring the grid cover down on top of the dome. Every other video works though.

If you could locate the files that cause those two problems that would be great!
