When I tried to install this game on my Windows XP with my old disk it refused to work., All I would get is a black screen, and either some sound effects or a box telling me that 'Myst has encountered and error and has to close'
When I joined GOG I bought it here hoping it would work here, still no luck. I miss playing this game (even though I was no good at it), could someone help me here.

Turns out I'd forgot to swich quicktime to safe mode. Now I feel like a fool.
installed Myst 5, but got the following message when I tried to start the game:
"unable to execute. createprocess failed code 740 the requested operation requires elevation
The game will open but as i click on start game but then the screen goes blank - the arrow is there and will only move within a hidden window , but no images.....any help?
Put this post elswehere as well - so apologise for the repeat....bit new to doing this
All my problems gone by removing spaces in the installation path, it is not the first time I resolve problems with a game with this trick, by default GOG installs everything to "C:/Program files", instead install in a path without spaces:

D:/GOGdotCOM/

sometimes the game name have white spaces in example for riven is

D:/GOGdotCOM/Riven - The sequel to myst

You just have to change it to

D:/GOGdotCOM/AnyNameWithNoSpaces

Instead rename the folder (beware GOG galaxy may no longer be able to launch the game but you can launch it from the shortcut inside the folder)

i'm just guessing why GOG deliberately inster whitespaces everywhere, just be sure there are no whitespaces, especially on XP/Vista and you will solve half of troubles.

also beware of special characters like "." and "-". Had same problem with some games that didn't launched properly from their installation path because I installed them to "Gog.com" (that's why I replaced "." with "dot")
