First of all, thanks GOG for bringing back one of my favourite series of all time.

I'm currently playing Uru, and find myself in Gahreesen. I'm sure you know the problem: just after restoring power, take the elevator up to the roof and you have to jump from it to a little plateau with a cloth on it, and from there to another walkway leading to a bigger building. The moment I jump from the first platform towards the cloth I fall through the rock (noclip) and link back to Relto.

I know this has been posted here before, however, I have tried everything I found on the GOG forums, Ubisoft forums and Mystcommunity. None of it works. I have yet to reinstall the game or play it on a different computer (which I can't). I just hope I can get something out of this before I reinstall or abandon the game completely. I have been trying to do this for a week now, everyday.

I'm pretty frustrated, so please forgive me if I sound terse, but don't post any links from people having the same issues on any of the three forums I mentioned. I've seen them already.

What I don't understand is how a game this old still has crippling bugs like this. I'm convinced there must be a patch somewhere, or an official address of some kind towards this issue that solves it. I just can't find it.

I'm totally OK with using any kind of cheats, unofficial patches, trainers, hackish installation merges with Uru Live and the like. I'll even hex-edit the game data files myself if I have to, so please, link me to any such solutions if they are out there.

Could anyone out there please help me?
Thank you.

EDIT (specs):
Windows 7 64 bit
AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.20 GHz
4 GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6670 1 GB DDR3

Have you tried flymode ?

I don't know if it will help but considering how long you've been trying to make the jump you could probably give it a shot.

For flymode i would likely get Drizzle and have it install the latest version of Offline KI.

Or upload your avatar folder instead and i'll gladly try to make the jump for you.

Let me know if you need help with the specifics of either option.
Last night I made the jump and it worked...
I think I should have posted about this before, I'm sure it would have resolved itself quicker, only if just to ridicule me :D

In any case thank you. Drizzle looks like an interesting tool all around. Now that I have completed the 6 games I might try some modding.
Yeah, that's usually how it goes, problems tend to fix themselves 2 minutes after you post about them on the internet :)

I had this issue. Landing on the left side of the platform would sometimes show me as half buried. If I went anti-clockwise I would die. Instead continuing forward clockwise around to the ramp then up to the symbol, I was fine and then my position was reset. I was then able to continue.
Thanks for confirming that this is in fact a bug and not some horrible lazy design decision suggesting that you're not supposed to jump while the platform is moving. It could honestly have been either, judging by the sloppy design I witnessed in Myst 4.

Seriously inexcusable in a puzzle-adventure game. Doubly so in a Myst game. When you're stuck it should be because you've not figured something out, and not because the developers decided they want to make a platforming game without knowing how to make one.

After bugs like this the game is half ruined since you can no longer trust the developers. Going forward I have to reach for a hint system immediately when I'm stuck, or waste time running around wondering what I've missed.

If anyone comes across this page from a Google search (as I just did): The Gahreesen jump bug can be fixed by running a program like FRAPS to forcibly limit the game's framerate - or bypassed by using the flymode cheat.

The bug didn't exist in the original release of the game; something about the power of modern hardware makes the game's visuals go out of sync with its physics or programming.

Cyan's record isn't clean when it comes to bugs on release, though. There were two serious bugs in "Myst Masterpiece Edition". One bug breaks a puzzle's mechanics in the Mechanical Age. The levers don't work as they should, but it can still be brute forced.

The other bug was even worse. The words "off" and "on" were carelessly switched via a typo on a torn note, making the game impossible to complete without resorting to a guide.

Myst V also has a deluge bugs and crashes. Most of its bugs are related to the tablet and incorrectly interpreting drawings. There was also a telescope that constantly crashed my game. Not a great experience.

Of course, the biggest mistake of all was what they did to the game's lore, but that's a rant for another time and place.
