I bought RealMyst to play on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit PC, but whenever I start the game it immediately crashes to the desktop. I looked through these forums and tried all the suggestions I found, I adjusted the video card settings, disabled visual themes, tried every single compatibility mode there is and ran it as an administrator but nothing has worked. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

DustyStyx: Perhaps GoG could release a patched version of the exe? I'm having the same problem, some times realMyst will launch but other times it just crashes back to the desktop, reguardless of the "run in XP mode with admin privileges" fix.
Yes, that would be nice. Particularly so, seeing as I have no idea how to map memory or map views of files.
Got a reply from GoG: Thanks a lot for the info. :) I have let my superior know about this and we'll see if we can roll out the patched version onto our file servers.

So maybe in the short future there will be a patched version rolled out.

That would be sweet! Thanks for the update, Spinvis.

But what do we do in the meantime? I just bought realMyst in the X-mas sale, and it's sad if I have to way 6 months to play it on Windows 7...

I guess one could try the above, but I have zero knowledge of hex editors
For anyone having trouble running myst on a windows 7 comp, I was able to solve all problems by putting real myst in windows xp compatibility mode.

If you are running a 64-bit version of Windows 7, try installing to your Program Files directory, rather than your Program Files (x86) directory.

walmartcartpush, mentioned this in another thread and it worked for me where the other tweaks (XP Mode, DirectX HAL, etc.) failed.

I'm not. I'm running 32bit and it feels like I have exhausted every possible tweak, except the hexediting thing...
