I have downloaded the codec from the suggestion for solving realMyst freezing. But it will not install, instead freezes at "looking for instances of Netscape"

I have tried all the other suggestions, except disabling the dual core.

Running XP sp3 with all drivers up to date.

Thanks for any help getting this game running.

It it's the Indeo Codec it can sometimes take a while to get past that "looking for instances of Netscape" stage.

When it comes to that stage just wait, the installation will eventually move on.

I waited till it came up with the message that there was a newer version of codec 4 and I should delete it. Instead I cancelled the codec 4 in the custom installation and then installed the codecs 3 and 5.
The little sample I played of realMyst worked perfectly, starting without the black screen and showing the videos in the boys linking books.

Thank you so much for that little boost.
You're welcome, have fun with realMyst.
Unfortunately after all that effort to get RealMyst to run it turns out I can't play it because of the full motion, triggers my motion sickness.
Ah well, just have to stick with the original Myst .
