It seems like it starts, the MYST icon is in the active program bar at the bottom, but i have no cursor control or any way of interacting with the machine. Then I get this error.

So, what's your graphical situation like?

I just see the desktop, with the MYST icon in the active program bar (I don't know what the proper name for it is.) IDK what graphics processor I have. Is that likely the problem?

That, or a missing dependency.

Run Dxdiag and report back. It's actually relevant.

When I try to include the Dxdiag report I get the error message, "wrong file format." Help please.

will not let me copy and paste, maybe because the file is too large. Are there relevant sections?

here's the first section:

A little overkill, but it'll do quite well.

Ah, an Intel "HD Graphics".

That'd aught to do ya. So you don't have a graphics card installed?

There's the problem. No dedicated GPU, and the driver for what is there is almost 7 years out of date.
I have got rid of the problem by making changes to the registry editor. https://thegeekpage.com/directx-setup-error-an-internal-system-error-occurred/
