A friend of mine is playing Myst, but she's asked me if there's a way to disable the hint system. She says she doesn't want the temptation of knowing she can get a hint in-game at any time. As far as I can tell, the only way I can disable it is to open the Help.dat file with a hex editor and replace every plaintext character with a space, so that none of the hints will show up. That's a lot of effort. Is there some other way? Am I overlooking something obvious?

Just rename or delete the file Help.dat
That just causes the game to crash for me. :(
