I would like to complain about the rating of the video game "My Time at Portia".
I have played the game with my daughter for over 40 hours.
The game is currently rated PG, mild violence. However there are undisclosed horror and sexual themes, including what I consider a rape scene.
The game starts innocently, but as it progresses it forces murder and sexual content on the player (in this case my 7 year old). There are very scary, horrible, monsters.
The rape scene (non-optional kissing) is presented as "dating" under the cover of a play date which eventuates in the Arlo character or Flying Pigs story line.
I don't mind sexual or horrible content, but it needs to be rated as such.

A little harsh, all the downvoting, people.

Personally, I think the monsters are a little cartoonish for my tastes, but I can see how a 7yo might have problems with a cartoon mouse jumping up out of sight, landing right on top of him, and killing him, something you will probably encounter within 40 hours. Particularly compared to the kinds of monsters you've met so far, which mostly just sit there. So far, all you've had to fight were the Slow Gooeys, and not even them. You could just run around them.


And I don't know, never seen the Arlo thing but I could certainly see a 7yo who thought he was arranging a play date that turns out to be a date date might be a little, um, surprised.

Not a huge fan of ratings, though. One man's trash is another man's treasure and all that. I learned my lesson years ago and play-tested pretty much everything before I let my kids install it.

if its just (non-optional kissing) that is not rape ..You are literally devaluing the term rape be equating rape with at worst (or at best depending on how one wants to phrase the matter on what some is despite it in agreement is bade) what could be seen as sexual assault ..I get being upset yes but I have grown quite annoyed over the years on seeing terms that are serious lose thier meaning via tossed around carelessly so much.. Thus my point.. Plus if you really want to complain about the rating and be taken serious then you'd want to use the proper none hyperbolic term usage as if not I see you by the people in charge not taken serious in this case

As a parent, it is your job to thoroughly investigate a game, rather than expecting the responsible industry to replace you as the decision maker. If you had watched YouTube videos, read reviews, etc. you would have seen the monsters.

Kissing someone is not rape. I'm appalled at the 4-year-old mentality of adult human beings now-a-days. We used to lean in for a kiss. Maybe you even kissed someone and surprised them. Rape is when you force yourself into another person's body using your sexual organs or objects that are meant to stand stead for your sexual organs. A peck on the lips could be seen as sexual assault, if you've never had the crap beat out of you. THAT is what assault is, actually. When someone beats you black and blue.

Why don't you teach your child how to take control of their own life? Teach them how to do research? Teach them NOT TO BELIEVE ANYONE EVER, UNLESS THEY CAN CONVINCE THEMSELVES OF IT.

THAT would be responsible parenting. And do not call a kiss rape. You are setting your child up for a traumatized life. They may never be able to engage in a healthy sexual relationship, given that their parent is so ill as to think that a kiss constitutes rape. That is part of my problem with many people now-a-days. By exaggerating and mis-labelling things, they denigrate actual sexual assault or rape cases. This is an illustration that tells us that the person has not themselves been raped. If they had been, they would not label an unwilling kiss as such.

I'm concerned about this child's mental health, living with a parent, who is labelling a simple kiss as rape. This child may never be able to have a healthy sexual relationship.

The dependence on a rating system also teaches a child to forfeit their autonomy by depending on someone else to decide for them if something is appropriate. I say 7 years old is not too young to show them how to research something. It wasn't too young for my children. But then, I investigated things myself before letting them play or watch something.

For the record, I agree with you. I think modern society has gone way overboard to the point of trivializing serious matters.

BUT...

Any parent who does not teach his kid that this is how it works in pretty much any company that has a HR department is leaving his kid woefully unprepared for the real world. An "unwilling kiss" is not only an offense that one can he fired over, but can even be prosecuted over.
