This patch is finally out - well sort of.
It's still in Steam Beta, but the devs have kindly provided a direct link to both the binaries and the source - which is pretty rare these days.

Just grab it, extract and copy into your modules/Viking Conquest folder and enjoy.
I'm currently using it with the Dark Age mod (graphics update only version), and it's working fine as far as I can tell. The chest in the refuge hall now works again for one thing.
