I Don't know if that would work. I heard Joy-to-key had some form of adware or malware in its code.
I haven't heard that about JoyToKey, I've been using it for a while now with no issues. I think it's great to be able to save profiles for my 8Bitdo Sn30 Pro+ controller and my Sega Saturn usb controller for all 3 games on there. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

The other alternative I know about is to go in to the game and press Ctrl+F1 which will bring up a screen where you can map your keyboard buttons to your controller buttons. This method is fine but it will recognize the left analog stick as the way to move and not the d-pad.
