For MK1 and MK2, F1 is the "start" button. F10 goes into "options". In options, go to CONTROL1 and press right arrow to switch to "4 BUTTON JOYSTICK". I use a Logitech F310 set to Direct Input (it also has an Xinput feature), and it works pretty good.

There's no "high punch" though; the punch button seems to just be a basic punch with no "high" or "low" to it. Still pulls off special attacks that normally involve high punch just fine though.

For MK3, Enter is the "start" button.
Do the Mortal Kombat games support the Xbox 360 controller?

Yes. I've tried it with the Logitech F310 while set to "X" (Xinput; 360 setting), and it works. The button mapping is a little weird in Xinput (360 controller), but works just fine.
Damn close to perfect except the high punch/low punch are combined.

This is doing my head in. How do you do the reptile orb move in mk2? If I remember correctly its back back hp+lp

Also down and right do not work in the fight but work fine in the menus in mk3. WHAT THE HELL

mk 1 movement controls seem to have a mind of there own. If I don't touch my the movement stick it ducks then resets to normal and just spams that however if I move the stick it follows my input and stops the "ducking" spam.

Doesn't that screw up Fatalities? Maybe not in the 1st one but they start to get kind of complex (who am I kidding, in #3 they're impossible! :P) and I would imagine some require a specific high or a low punch.

And Neon, I'm really happy for you, but please tell me you aren't going to have that avatar until next January! :P

Revis is favorite current player. (Even when he was on the jets) Dick "Night Train" Lane and "Neon" Deion Sanders being my all time favorites. The fact the pats have him and won a superbowl makes it so much sweeter. Payback for Curtis Martin on the jets :P

I still get all excited when I see him in my avatars with the Lombardi. It will be up there for some time is my guess ;)

I have the exact same issue with both my Xbox 360 controller and with some no name cheap controller -_-

I downloaded a free version of X-padder, but I cant figure out movement controls. It seems to have a mind of its own, character selection stays on scorpion (MK 1) and if I move the stick even a MOLECULE, it just bounces around randomly. Then the fight starts, and I'm usually stuck moving to the right, and ducking a hundred times a second. I've been trying to fix this all night cause lets face it... keyboard is not how anyone should play this awesome game.
I have a USB XBOX360 controller and a NES 8 bit original pad hooked up to an adapter and I too cannot controller it's stuck moving my character to the right. I don't like having to use the keyboard.

I use a wired xbox 360 controller, and a fix for me was to make sure that in the options (F10) that the control was set to keyboard, not joystick or any of the other options. I then used a neat little program called JoyToKey which basically tells the computer that your controller's input is to be treated like regular keyboard input. So to put it another way, JoyToKey tells the application that when you press "A" on your controller, the application running (MK 1) will treat is like you pressed "A" on your keyboard. Since you can have all the controls for this game mapped on a keyboard layout, you can map all the buttons on your 360 controller to those corresponding buttons. And because the game is set to keyboard, it will ignore the stick input entirely and you can have total control over your fighter!!! no more random ducking and walking into the enemies!!! YAY!!!

The only downside is that in order to be able to move you have to use the d-pad, and map the d-pad to arrow keys. (I prefer WASD) You could mess around with the stick threshold so that it ignores a certain amount of movement. (in my case it was like a million times too sensitive and if I even breathed to the left the stick would register it a s a full on hard left... so I just LEFT the sticks alone for now ahhaha see what I did there?) On that note, JoyToKey does NOT recognize the trigger buttons, I think because they have some sort of resistor or something to simulate partial depression of the button. (like when you hold it halfway down to free aim in GTA, OR like when you are playing a racing game and don't have the gas all the way down for breaking at corners and such) I could be wrong on that though. ANYWHO...

Every other button you can push will map (right and left bumpers too) I think the middle xbox button doesn't do anything either. So yeah hope that can help you with the 360 controller, I don't know about your other one though... Cheers Mate.

For MK3, Enter is the "start" button.
Odd, i'm using a Dinput joystick myself and the game (MK1) refuses to recognize it. Did you had to mess around at all with DOSbox settings?

Hi,
Thanks for sharing your info. I pressed right arrow on controller 1 but cannot change it to Joystick. Any other solution?
Thanks
