Hi Community!

I've been trying to find the original version of The Secret of Monkey Island on GOG Galaxy so that I could add my version to the library. Only the Special Edition shows up when I search for the game.

Does anybody know why this is the case and is it possible to add games to Galaxy by yourself or can only GOG do it?

Thanks!

If I remember well, Gog only got the remaster version. However, you can play the game with the original graphics and interface.

Are you asking if it is possible for you to add the original to Galaxy's game database, or are you asking if it is possible for you to add the original to your local Galaxy library?

If you are asking the former, you could try updating The Secret of Monkey Island's IGDB page to trigger its addition to Galaxy's listings (there is no guarantee this will work). As the page already exists on IGDB, I'm not sure why the classic version currently doesn't show up in Galaxy's results when manually adding the game (as of the date of this post, only the Special Edition and RECODED are listed in Galaxy's results for The Secret of Monkey Island); perhaps there is some key piece of data missing on IGDB, or perhaps GOG has purposely excluded the original title.

If you are asking the latter, then yes, but you will need to provide game art (tile, background, icon). I used the ScummVM integration plugin to add the Ultimate Talkie Edition to my local Galaxy library. When it added the Ultimate Talkie Edition, it was conflated with the Special Edition, which is in my GOG library. While this worked, I preferred to have the Ultimate Talkie Edition listed separately. To accomplish this, I had to change the ID for the game in ScummVM (the default is "monkey", I changed it to "monkey1"). I used the poster art provided by Laserschwert in The International House of Mojo forums to create a tile, background, and icon for the game.

Sadly this is no Option for People playing in other Languages.
While being in the modern Look of the Game, the Subtitles are in the Language you picked, but when changing to the Original, it changes the Text to english.

The german Translator did some really great Work back then, as they had more Liberties to change Stuff that just doesn't suits the other Language.

I'd prefer it also if GOG manages to distribute the original versions of the games, official localizations and different versions (EGA, VGA, CD, FMTowns, etc -- as many of those as possible). Hopefully they haven't completely given up on this, and maybe the hype for the new Monkey Island might help(?)

As a possible alternative, I remember being able to import our fan made Greek translation of the game (text, images, fonts) to LogicDeluxe's Ultimate Talkie English version, with a custom made patch. I only did quick testing so I didn't bother checking for side-effects and fixing them at the time, but it should be possible.

Which is to say, someone with time in their hands, and programming knowledge could produce a binary patch using resources extracted from the original German version, which would patch them onto the English talkie.

A German patch for the Ultimate Talkie does already exist:

That's even better then. Perhaps this is what kakiss4 was looking for (?)
