I've encountered a game breaking bug in the Enhanced Edition of MIND: Path to Thalamus (2.1.0.6). The mouse stops working after picking up a ball on the "Hovering Reef" level, and this is followed by other odd control behaviors that make it impossible to progress further.

The developer has acknowledged and resolved this issue in the Steam version, but doesn't seem to have extended that same courtesy to GOG. I hope the dev reads this and finds motivation to fix the GOG version, as it's quite a beautiful game and it would be great to be able to enjoy the complete experience.

Edit: I thought skipping the level via the menu might help, but unfortunately this same bug occurs randomly in subsequent levels.

Edit 2: I sent a message to the developer. Hopefully, this will be taken care of in the near future.

Did you recieve a reply? I was finally thinking of trying this game but ugh..I'm not going to start knowing a game has random game breaking bugs.
Hi, Nirth.

No, unfortunately I have not received a response. I left a message on the game's website via the "Ask box." The developer responded to a number of (unrelated) questions later that day, but my inquiry was not among those. If I had a Twitter account, I'd have also contacted him that way (if anyone feels motivated, feel free to do so).

There is a comment posted in late December by someone on one of the Steam threads ("Game breaking bug") asking for a solution as well. The dev took the time to respond to other comments in the same thread, but seems to have missed or ignored that one. This is a legitimate problem with the GOG version that needs to be, at the very least, acknowledged by the developer (and perhaps GOG).

In its current state, the GOG version of the Enhanced Edition seems to be unplayable beyond about the halfway point, which is disappointing because, again, it's a beautiful game. It's a shame that it is being neglected by the developer.

So, maybe wait a bit and see if we get an update? I definitely wouldn't recommend buying it at this time. Playing the version available on GOG right now would likely become an exercise in frustration. Sorry. Wish I had better news.

Hi!

Carlos Coronado, gamedev here.

I am unable to reproduce this bug in three diferent computers... can you be more specific where it happens?

Thanks!
Hi, Carlos.

The bug occurs in the current version (2.1.0.6) of the GOG Enhanced release. It is absent in the Steam version, and was fixed after the November updates that came out immediately following the game's release.

Specifically, the bug appears (for the first time) on the "Hovering Reef" level, once you pick up the ball and go through a portal with the ball. When you step through the portal, mouse movement no longer works and while you can move left, right, forward, and backward, you are fixed in one position. If you continue to move about the screen, sometimes the ball starts disappearing and then you are only able to move forward. In one of my attempts to progress through the level, I ended up moving through the ball and then over a cliff, but instead of falling I was floating above the land below.

The same bug occurs in subsequent levels, though not in any of them before the "Hovering Reef" level (even if you go back and replay the earlier levels). I could never recreate the bug as consistently as I could on "Hovering Reef" in the later levels. On later levels, it seems to happen in the first few minutes of play and seems also to be connected to picking up the ball (however, the bug is not necessarily triggered by the portal/ball combination, as it seems to be on the "Hovering Reef" level).

All of my drivers are up-to-date and I have fairly new hardware. I will send you a private message with my computer's specs, in case that might help in some way to solve this issue. If I can be of any further help, please let me know. I am a fan of your (hard) work and am happy to assist you in any way that I am able. It would be great to get this sorted out.

Thank you for writing and asking about the bug. Much respect and appreciation. It says a lot that you are willing to take time out of your busy schedule to deal with this matter.

I have the exact same problem as Zakmckracken and everyone else in this steam thread; on top of that, if I managed to get through a gate, I also lost control over everything except the ability to jump.

Hi Carlos,

this bug has been reproduced by several users on steam as well as Theck. It also already have been eradicated according to your own post here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/296070/discussions/0/490124466478879445/#c490125103625158311. Well, don't know if this is true for steam but at least for the GOG version it is not. Here you can watch the proof - my own gameplay

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B45YJj6bhfxaOTdNZ0dfcGpnTTA/view?usp=sharing

I can reproduce this several times and cannot play game any further because of it. I played through the original version without any problems apart of the fact that you left the special characters bug in the German translation unfixed which I find a bit lazy given the fact that I paid full money for a working game. And please don't give that "It's not supported anymore" answer because that "not supported" game is the one I paid for.

Anyway I really like the game and I think it has some amazing surreal visuals but especially the support here on GIG could be better.
The level prior to this had me in knots trying to overcome a portal glitch/bug, and now I'm experiencing the paralysis bug with the ball in the current level. I am unable to progress.

Patch time. Otherwise, I give up.

Having played both the original and getting to this point in the EE, the wiser course might be sticking to the original. EE seems drastically worse in terms of storytelling and pointless design changes.
GOG today has received the latest version of MIND. It should be the same now which is on steam. Maybe the bug is fixed as well. Since the bug is not mentioned on steam anymore I thing there is a good chance that it won't occur using the actual release. So it's download time again :)

That's great! It took them only 6 months to update the GOG version. Good job devs... And that's thanks to MarkoH01 who got into the hassle to contact them repeatedly about the update. Otherwise we'd probably never get it.
Anyone brave or inquisitive would mind checking if any game breaking bugs are left?

Yes, I just tried it and the "losing mouse control" bug is gone. So my assumption that we on GOG always had an old unfixed version seems to be correct. Luckily thgis is not the case anymore.

To be fair - the devs are not responible for this. It is their publisher surprise attack who seems to like his sleep a bit too much after he got our money. They did not reply one single mail from me even though the last one was not very friendly anymore. The devs however always replied. I know that I won't buy anything from this publisher anymore because I don't like to wait for months whenever something needs to be patched. Calling their support crappy would be a compliment. I don't know if my repeated questions or simply Judas' good contact lead to this finally arriving here but anyhow I am glad to have it now.
