Yes, thanks so much for the suggestions...;) I had simply forgotten how some DOS games are actually hard-coded to specific sound-blaster settings *even if* their setup files "allow" you to change them! I had changed them in the CD-ROM version and run the setup file and matched the settings in the CD-ROM .conf file--and that worked fine. But not so with the floppy...had to stick with the defaults or the game was just unplayable due to frequent lockups.
I use dosbox svn-daum instead of the standard dosbox gog ships and have an extensive dosbox.conf file for my DOS games, and use shaders to clean up the somewhat rough graphics of the period (part of svn-daum dosbox) and for performance, this version of dosbox also allows me to use a 64-bit version of dosbox...dosbox_x64.exe. I think it's the best dosbox package available for gaming. Thanks again for the thoughts...!...;)

Can someone tell me if the CD and floppy versions have separate DOSBox configuration files? I would guess that they do, but I'm not sure.
Yes, I use two separate dosbox.conf files. It's interesting the way Gog has put both of these versions together in the same physical directory--each version has its own configuration file, too (the game's own config files.) The CD-ROM version's is in the WORLD subfolder, and the floppy version's in the main directory--both are XEEN.CFG
So...you run the setup (install.exe) for each version separately, and your IRQ & Midi choices are written to the respective XEEN.CFG file.
I'm just delighted everything's running properly now...;) It's the simplest things sometimes...:D
