I'm fighting both in the same battle, and really, what's the difference? I can't picture in my mind how to tell the two apart.

I guess so, I'm looking at it too straightforward, if I want to get creative, the "Zombies" could be mind-controlled slaves at the whim of an evil wizard/priest, after all I tend to see them teamed up with Clerics. Or then again, I can see both as living corpses, but one has free will while the other is thralled by a necromancer.
