Hello everyone,

Recently Nostalgia had me replaying might and magic VI and might and magic VII, as these are imo ageless gems of games/stories. While playing my girlfriend saw what I was doing and was interested in playing it herself. I'm really excited at sharing part of my childhood with her, but there's one problem: She's an arachnophobe, and the spiders in both games trigger that in a really bad way. Which leads me to my question

Does anyone know how I can replace the spider models (and if possible, sounds) into something else? Ideally through a mod, but if I can manually replace them that's also fine.

I bolded the text for clarity and to be a tldr for peopple that just want to see the question.

thanks in advance!

The game data looks to be stored in an LOD file extension (whatever that is), so it doesn't look to be a simple manual procedure. You're going to need some tools, and possibly also Greyface's mod. The tools do appear to already exist, at least.

After a short google search ("replace monster sprites in Might and Magic 6"), I found the following two links that might help get you pointed toward the tools. If you want to switch out the sprites entirely, then you're in for some work both learning and then doing. Per the first link, there are apparently at least 20 different animations per monster that you'll need to change.

I used MM Archives for years.... it also work with Heroes 3 if I recall.

I always found the MM6 spiders extremely creepy and realistic looking, as well the way they moved and swarmed on you.

MM7, not so much.

MM8 doesn't have spiders, BUT, the dark elves and necromancers are fond of spider motifs on their clothes and building interiors.
