I have a game of MM6 installed and once I get past the character creation screen, I cannot move using the arrow keys. The mouse works fine, I can open the menus, but I cannot get the characters to move.

When I first installed the game it worked great, until after my first save. I got up to level 4, no problems. After the save something happened - I've tried reinstalling, I've even tried installing from my original discs but I can't move now.

Perhaps there's something in Windows 7 that's saved in a corrupted state? I tried deleting all registry entries related to MM6 before reinstalling and starting over again, but it didn't help. Any suggestions?

Setup:
Win7 Home Premium, SP1 64-bit
NVidia GeForce GT 540M
MM1-6 pack from Gog installed
GrayFace patch (I've tried without it, doesn't seem to make a difference)
I'm running MM6 on a Win7 ultimate 64-bit with no issues whatsoever.

I would uninstall dosbox along with MM6 and then re-install MM6 (it should install dosbox for you). My guess would be an issue with dosbox rather than MM6 or win7.
I don't think MM6 uses DOSBox, so that's not likely to be the problem.

Are you stuck in turn-based mode? Hitting Enter will toggle between real-time and turn-based. While in turn-based mode you can't move.

If that's not the problem, then try installing the game to somewhere OTHER than Program Files, to avoid permissions problems in Windows 7. Also make sure you install and run the game as admin.
re: Waltorious

I've tried reinstalling several times, in different locations, and I get the same behavior. I'm wondering if something went wrong that only reinstalling Windows may fix, since the game worked for a few hours before it stopped entirely. I've been playing MM7 with no problems.

Thanks for replying!

That is really odd, and might be an issue specific to MM6. Unfortunately I'm not an expert at troubleshooting MM6, so maybe someone else here can help?

What exactly happens when you run the game? Are you unable to move at all, or can you turn but not move forwards or backwards? Is time progressing in the game or is it totally frozen? Can you access menus and stuff?

Have you tried applying Greyface's patch? There's info in the sticky thread in this forum.

The game starts as normal, I setup a group and then I end up in town. Unfortunately I'm immediately stuck in place, cannot even move the first step. I can turn around, time continues, and menus are all accessible.

When I open my saved game I'm stuck at the last place I stood, which is in the first town by the Training School. When I create a new game I'm stuck at the entrance of the town.

I've used the game on my previous laptop, which had Vista Home Premium and it worked fine. I've tried re-installing MM6 with the Grayface patch and without it, neither makes a difference. I guess I'll give up on it for now and play through the others, then next time I reinstall Windows I'll try again.
This just happened to me!

I've got several save games. All save games outside have this problem. I can't move, i can't jump, but all other functions work still.

But if I load my 1 indoors save game everything is still normal. It happened today, after months of playing without problems. I'm trying to think about what could have possibly caused this, but there wasn't even a windows update today. I don't understand this at all.

Just like the OP I tried reinstalling, but no luck. I tried casting town portal, it teleports me but then I'm again stuck unable to move.

Windows 7 32bit
Geforce GTX 670
6-pack from GoG installed
Grayface patch and without

But like I said, it has been working for months! And today it suddenly has this problem.
The outdoors savegame that worked still this morning now suddenly has this problem.
So it's not that the game made a bad save game.... i realy don't understand.

Hello there,

I have also experienced this problem. My first guess was that I was stuck in turn-based mode. However it was not the case. My next guess was that I was stuck physically in the bridge, all four characters were making the shouting action (I think this either indicates I am stuck mid air, or repeated action-like behaviour)

After googling for a solution for like half an hour, I was quite dissappointed. Giving all hope, I restarted my computer and decided to try again. I used administrator mode for mm6.exe this time. And by some miracle it worked! Only thing is that, the save I took after I was stuck is still stuck while a new game or other saves are free. I am not sure how I solved it but this indicates that there is hope. Dont give up people, if you encounter this bug, there is a chance that you can still enjoy this amazing game.

P.S: Being a 10+ year mm7 & mm8 player, I am wondering why I never got myself into playing mm6, feels fresh :)

I had something similar happen today. I was in turn-based mode, and it just got stuck. I could look around, open menus, but the hourglass in the right bottom just kept working. All enemies were frozen in place. I saved and re-loaded; it loaded it as normal mode, so I assumed the matter was fixed. Going in turn-based, it got stuck again. Even tried moving away to another place, before turning into turn mode which didn't work. I tried leaving the map, and then try back into turn-mode, again, stuck.

I worried I had to re-do a month of in-game work.

I exited the program. I restarted the program. It worked. Guess it was a game performance error.

When in doubt. Turn it off, then turn it back on... :)
