When I try to load Might and Magic II: Gates to Another World via my desktop shortcut, the GOG Galaxy page comes up. I click on the green "Play" button, the screen shows that the cloud syncs up, but then that same green "Play" button reappears. I have tried clicking on the button a few times but the game doesn't load. Can someone help me wit this?

I had that happen after the newest update. Simply verifying the game solved this. Happened for MM1 as well btw.

the button "more" next to the "Play" button you used
will drop down a menu,
click/hover on "manage installation"
and verify/repair should appear in the next menu section that shows up
clicking that should fix your game as per the advice of Jann180

Are you playing on a laptop with external monitor?

I played through MM9 recently and it will behave exactly as you decribe if i start it with my external monitor connected. If you are on a laptop, try disconnecting the external monitor.
