I'm playing Might & Magic 7, the one that starts with a scavenger hunt to find a number of items, which will result in your party's winning Harmondale Castle. I've turned in all of the items except the longbow. I HAVE a longbow -- in fact, I have two -- but when I try to turn it in to the judge, he says I don't have anything else for the contest.

When I played this long ago, from disc, I had no problem with the longbow, but since GOG was having such a good sale on MM, and since getting those old discs to run is a pain, I bought the GOG version. Anybody have any idea what the problem is?

If I can't turn the bow in, I can't play more than the prologue, since it's winning the contest that makes the game continue.

Help, please?

Edited to add: Never mind! It turned out I had something that had the TYPE "longbow," but it wasn't considered a longbow for the purposes of the contest. A walkthrough told me that the longbow on the floor of the Dragon's Cave was what was needed for the contest. It wasn't.

I tried to delete this post but couldn't figure out how. Sorry!

The judge specifically wants an item named "Longbow". A "Crude Bow" or any other type of bow doesn't count. If you have a longbow, the Judge should take it, even if someone has it equipped.

I just tried a new game, and there were two bows on the floor of the dragon cave. One was a crude bow, one was a longbow, and the Judge took the longbow and gave me credit. I restarted, and there was a pile of gold in place of the crude bow, so that one was random treasure. The longbow and quest item were still in their same places.

A longbow is always what spawns in the Dragon Cave in that particular treasure location so at least one is available to give to the judge, but the dragon cave bow is a generic bow of its type; the judge doesn't care how or where you acquire a longbow. Buy it from a shop, find it as random treasure, loot it from the dragon cave, whatever.

You'd have to contact a mod or staff member to delete a post. I wouldn't worry about it.

There is another guaranteed "Longbow" longbow. You get it by killing somebody (in self defense if you say the right things when you have one of a certain other item).
