So I'm halfway through my Solo Ranger run. I just completed the Breeding Zone mission, with much ease.

I don't think I would have made it so far without a weapon with the "Of Darkness" enchantment. It turns out that a swift vampiric weapon is pretttyyy goood! You can just heal yourself to full by mashing the "A" button if you don't get hit. Sadly, getting an Axe (or any weapon) with "Of Darkness" basically requires you to kill a Dragon and save/reload until you get the item of your choice. It took me about 4 hours. What a waste of time!

Anyway, I'm kinda not very impressed and not very disappointed by this build. The lack of either Expert Alchemy (for Haste potions) or M Armsmaster (for extra damage) is frustrating. Expert Spirit Magic for Bless + Heroism is kinda nice however. But it doesn't give the same boost as E Alchemy or M Armsmaster.

I mean, with a GM Axe skill of 18, an E Armsmaster skill of 20 (which includes an Armsmaster bonus from a helm of +10) and an Expert Spirit Magic skill of 4 + 3 (from ghost ring?) for Heroism I'm only dealing ~70 dmg at a moderately fast recovery rate. It's just OK. A Knight with GM Armsmaster would easily deal 120+ dmg at a faster recovery rate and take far less damage with GM Plate. The Thief would deal a similar amount of dmg but at a faster recovery rate, while using fewer skill points.

Overall, a solo Knight or Thief run is far more enjoyable with lots more potential.

Also, the Ranger class would be so much better with Expert Alchemy. That's one simple change that would bring the Ranger from mediocre-at-best to kinda decent.

I don't believe that a solo Ranger playthrough is terribly fun or even challenging, but it's possible with the right weapon.
