Hi!

I'm running the newest version of Grayface patch for MM7 and when checing the errorlog in game directory I found this persistent problem which makes the game unable to run – I was able to launch it a couple of times by changing settings in MM& setup, but this option stops working after one try and the game doesn't launch through GOG Galaxy nor from exe in the game folder.

Any idea how to circumvent it? I was elated when I first booted up MM7 with the patch (great new UI and bug fixes), but I can't play it anymore as it crashes constantly without even showing the intro now. Any help will be much aprreciated :)

Just tested and noticed the same.
I got it to start and load a save by opening the games folder (easy to do thru Galaxy) and right clicking the mm7.exe, clicking properties and going to compatibility. All I did was check the "Run this program as an administrator".

I do not know why MM7 needs this, but MM8 does not (nor does MM6)

Unfortunately, even running it in admin didn;t work and I'm totally stumped :(

I made one other change in the windows registry but didn't think this fixed it.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\New World Computing\Might and Magic VII\1.0
Changed "D3D Device" to a 1. As i tried that before admin change and still did not work, didn't think it was as important. try and see if works with admin and this?
Unless things have changed recently, the easiest way to get MM7 to run after installing the Grayface patch is to set the compatibility mode to Windows XP (SP2 or 3). Administrator shouldn't be needed. You may need to change it through "change settings for all users"

You can also set MM7Setup.Exe to Windows XP (SP2 or 3) if you want to select hardware accelerated mode.

Just tried this on my old install on Windows 10, and still works without issue.

I also recommend the mouselook mode.

*Note: If you still have issues, try a clean install in a differently named folder. Make sure to set the compatibility mode before running it. Sometimes Windows will add compatibility fixes on it's own thinking it's doing the right thing. This may be why it worked. Once.

Thanks - setting compatibility on both exes worked for me!
