In MM1 the location spell revealed your coordinates as well as region A-1, C-2, etc. I love the new map feature with auto-mapping in MM2 but it does not tell you where you are in terms of region..am I missing something?
Unless I am mistaken, you can simply cast the location spell to learn this. But I might be wrong.

In MM2, you can cast location to get a view of the map, or you can just press M to view your map. But if you just press M, it won't tell you where you are, whereas if you cast Location, if will tell you where you are.

At least I think this is how it works. I may not be remembering correctly.
Oddly pressing M does everything and anything that you will/can get. It shows the area (mapped if you have cartographer) and shows the coordinates.

This makes the location spell useless since it does the same thing as pressing M. What is even more strange is that there are TWO items that cast Location - the Sextant and the Compass. I can't for the life of me figure out why as they are not special they just say "Cast S 1-6" which is location. Weird.

... and holy crap Leprechauns vaporizing valuables !! ALL my gold? ALL of it? Really?! 1 turn?! ...evil.

Weird, I don't remember having any problems figuring out which sector of the world map I was in. I thought it was because I cast Location a lot. But apparently not.

Can someone else confirm this? Was I just some kind of psychic genius when I played, able to divine where I was?

And yes, leprechauns are awful, awful creatures.
Yes, location spell is useless.

EDIT:
It doesn't seem to show you the sector. But I don't remember having problem with it either... Weird

It's not that hard to get millions of gold. All you need to do is kill an Ancient Dragon in the Dragon's Dominion.

To do that, all you need is Levels and HP.

To get Levels, all you need to do is use a Skill Potion (or some piece of Gold equipment). You can use Enchant Item to make them give more levels and Recharge Item to get more uses of them. (This lasts until the end of the next battle, provided you don't rest first.)

To get HP, all you need are Max HP potions. Again, Enchant Item and Recharge Item are good here. A Max HP Potion +5 will raise maximum HP by 1792 (256 * 7) per use. To actually heal those HP, just use Divine Intervention. (This lasts until you rest.)

To get gems to power those spells, just go to Gemmaker Volcano.

You don't have those spells? Well, there is an easy solution. Get Ariel (requires a fight that a level 1 party can easily win) and Big Bootay (requires Teleport, but you can just use a Teleport Orb). Then use the fountain in C1 that raises your spell level to 9. Now Ariel and Big Bootay can, until the end of the next battle, cast ANY spell of the right type in the game. With the 200 SP fountain (also in C1), you can easily get your items up to +5 if you have the gems.

Also, while you're add it, why not kill the Cuisinarts?

(Of course, doing all this may result in you not fully enjoying the gradual progression of power as the Cuisinarts give enough experience to raise a level 1 0 XP character past level 20.)
Heh. Well, if I can't trust myself, who can I trust?

Maybe we just figured it out by using the PDF world map? It's easy to see which sector the towns are in, and then just keep track when traveling.
Some of the other platforms actually showed which map area you were in. Here's a video from the Sega Genesis version:

Looks beautiful, wish I could have those graphics - and that map. The town music would be nice to have but good God that battle music is horrendous.
Sega Genesis music seems like an acquired taste in general. But that example is pretty special indeed.

FWIW, the Amiga version looked pretty similar, and lacks the offensive music. And you can even type stuff!
I had the C64 and Sega version as a kids. My preference was the Sega version b/c the disk-swapping every 16 steps was utter torture. But the C64 version was a bit prettier and better sound. It was quite nice.

Wait till you meet the guy who can permanently lower all your stats to 5 (or 0 when you wear stat raising weapons or amor). I was so frustrated that I nearly rage quit the game.

Actually, it is possible to recover from this even if it happens late in the game. (Also, it's 3, not 5.)

First, use the Agility boosting spot. This will give your characters 53 agility, which is enough to outspeed the majority of enemies.

Then, use the Intelligence boosting spot. Now your Sorcerer and Archer can cast spells like Wizard's Eye.

Once you've done that, you can boost other stats if you want, and the game shouldn't be too frustrating at this point.

Personality isn't as important as you might think. The only Cleric spell with a scaling cost is Power Cure, and if your HP is high enough (you can use a Max HP potion if needed), you can use Divine Intervention for all your healing needs (and there's even an item that casts it).

To deal with aging, my strategy is as follows:
When you're about done with your playing session:
1. Save the game
2. Cast Rejuvenation
3. If successful, go back to step 1
4. Once it fails, turn off the game.

Alternatively, of course, you could cast the spell with the item, pass it around the party, and use the spa to lower everyone's age at once.

I wish I had your hints when it happened to me some months ago. ;)

Took me some days to get my old stats back. The most frustrating moment was the one when I realized what happened and that I already saved the game.
