So I just got back to current time 900's and have all 4 talons, and went to the dawn cave to attempt to get the orb. It prompts me and asks me if i have what it takes (I have all 4 talons so i guess so) and yes or no gives me no response... All the walkthroughs and so on seem to treat it as a given so I'm not sure why i can't get the orb~

halp~

Figured it out -- although theres no mention of it, you have to have the 4 mechanical parts from the castles in your inventory somewhere it seems!

Now try to get the Orb out of the dungeon. ;-)
Or has the walkthrough spoilt you?
Sorry to piggyride on this thread, but how do you get the orb out?

If possible don't give straight answer, just some hints.

You have to do some silly metagaming, by exploiting the game mechanics.
Does it involve spellcasting?

EDIT: Lloyd's Beacon!!!!!

I'll try it out soon as I'm back at my PC tomorrow

Nope. Though you are kind of on the right track by mentioning Lloyd's Beacon.

OK. I figured out the way. Checked the walkthroughs and to my slight surprise found out that it's the only way.

So my question is: are there any hints about solving this found in anywhere in game (any notes on the wall)?
If not, then just how is the player expected to find it out?? It's very counter-intuitive. It makes use of an exploit of the game mechanics. And it just feels wrong.

Welcome to the club.
AFAIK there are no in-game clues.
I wish I could remember how I solved the problem the first time I completed the game, before Internet.

There is a clue in the cluebook, though, right? Did the cluebook come with the game originally?

When I bought the Amiga version of MM2, I remember there was a nice, fat manual and a notebook (only game I've seen come with its own notebook) with the NWC logo.
But I don't remember any cluebook.

Must have been for sale separately, then. It's included with the GOG version though, so players could check there first instead of an internet walkthrough if they only wanted a hint, rather than a full solution.
You're right. It does.

Funny thing, I keep the cluebook as my first point for reference, and yet I missed it. Just read the maps and forgot to go through the Misc clues.
