Hi all,

In MM2 I keep encountering undead monsters who are immune to normal weapons. Think of Lost Souls and Sarakin (and some other minor ones). These can only be hurt, it seems, by magic. But battle with the Lost Souls and Sarakin are at the moment too hard to defeat with only two spellcasters. Is there any point that weapons WILL hurt those monsters? A.k.a. when I have weapons +20 or something? Or should I simply level up and then defeat them with my spellcasters?

Thanks!

Some enemies are simply outright immune to physical attacks.

More commonly, however, you will encounter enemies with gender based immunity to physical attacks. In other words, there are enemies that can only be hurt by male characters and others that can only be hurt by female characters. Yes, it is as ridiculous as it sounds. (There is one recruitable character who, in other versions, is third gender. (Zer gender is incorrectly listed as Female in the DOS version, unfortunately.) I do not know how the game handles that.)

If you are unsatisfied with the gender of your characters, there are fountains in the castle that can change that. Note that they change your entire party, so you may want to use Lloyd's Beacon and have only some of your characters drink.

Also, there are items that cast spells. One particularly nice one can be found in a room on the east side of the Dragon's Dominion. (Note that you do not have to fight an Ancient Dragon to get that treasure.) There are also random drops that cast Lightning Bolt when used.

By the way, there is an enemy that is immune to physical attacks *and* has an attack that takes away *all* of the *entire* party's SP. Have fun with that.

Thanks for the clarification. I hope the last enemy you're referring to is optional...! Still, the game rocks!
Then another question.

There are certain class related quests which you can only finish with characters of that class. However, if my archer were to venture out only, he wouldn't survive very long. Should I make a full party with archers (and possibly a robber, for I seem to understand that's the only class allowed on every class quest) or are the battles easy enough for one (or two) characters?

Can anyone give me a few pointers without spoilers? That would very much be appreciated!

I can't remember how easy/hard those class quests were, but I guess it depends on how poweful your characters are.

Personally I thought the class quests were nice opportunities to use the full roster of characters and hirelings. So for the Archer quest I'd use my own Archer and Robber, and fill the rest the party with hirelings from those two classes. IIRC, you get a nice XP reward for completing the class quests, which for low level hirelings is a nice boost.

That's a smart tactic. I should find mire hirelings!
The hirelings definitely help. I also used them as way to hold on to magic items that were useful, but I wouldn't want all the time! If you haven't used the pre-generated characters there is a robber in there as well. Levelling up hirelings is free as well (though you have to pay them each day anyway!)

As for your undead problem ... There is a cleric spell for turning undead and also some items that allow characters to cast turn undead as well that might help, but problem is if it leaves even one you might still struggle! No harm in running away from some encounters until you can cast holy word. Then undead are a bit less of an issue (but aging might start to be one!).
Hmm, I have played MM1 before but I have more trouble with part 2 it seems. I'm enjoying myself but I'm completely clueless as what to do. I'm afraid I'm too weak to do the classquests so I try to do lord quests but I'm stuck pretty fast. I try to explore as much as possible. I explored Sarakin's Mine but the Ice Cave is too difficult. I guess I should just keep levelling and exploring right? I'm only level 13 after all.

That's usually the best tactic.

Regarding the undead, do you have any magic weapons (i..e weapons with a "+", like Sword +2)? In MM1, there are some enemies that can only be hurt by magic weapons. I can't remember if that's the case for these enemies in MM2 as well. You can give it a try.

I do not remember this happening in MM2. However, I remember one weaker undead enemy being immune to physical attacks from male characters, and the SP draining physically immune enemy I mentioned in another post in this topic is immune to all physical attacks. (Yes, I know that's redundantly redundant.)
Another nice thing about hirelings: Hirelings in spell casting classes already know all spells of that type. This gives you access to spells that might not be easy to find, and when combined with certain fountains (like one in C1) or the use of a Shaman Pipe, will allow you to cast high level spells, including those learned only by leveling up.

Incidentally, with hirelings, it becomes easy to get Mr. Wizard. There is a spot that can raise your Spell Level to 9 right next to the fight, and the fight can be won with one Implosion and one Holy Word.

By the way, Holy Word does not age you in the DOS version. (Bug?) Similarly, Frenzy only lowers your current Endurance, not your base Endurance, which eliminates that spell's biggest drawback. (If you are trying not to exploit bugs, I recommend not using Frenzy, as Frenzy + Finger of Death/Disintegrate will reliably instantly kill any enemy in the game.)
