Hi all-

I have been playing for a while now and I'm slowly gathering more and more quest items. Is it possible to make another character who will just stay at an inn and give him (or them depending on the number of the items) all the quest items? Or would you advise against this? (I don't know how many quest items there are and how much room they eventually will take up, but I can imagine it to be more convenient at times to have them with you).
If I remember correctly, whether or not you have certain quest items determines whether or not the game knows you're on the quest. So if you have a quest to deliver an item, and you lose that item or give to to someone else and leave them at the inn, then if you go back to the person who gave you the quest they'll give you the quest again. Most quests can also be repeated after you've finished them, so losing items isn't that big of a deal.

I'm not entirely certain that it's ONLY the item that determines this, but it can often be better to have the items with you. There aren't that many of them. Of course, there is the chance that you'll lose the items... some enemies can steal items and there are other times when choosing to trade with an NPC in a special encounter will clear a character's inventory without warning.

I just ended up carrying everything with me, but it's definitely possible to give it to someone else that you leave at the inn. I would think that having to go back for it would be almost as annoying as just carrying it with you anyway. Also, if you don't have the item with you, then when you find the next stage of the quest you might not know it.

Anyone know for sure how important the items are for tracking quest progress in the game?

I think I'll carry them with me. The only reason I didn't want to was really just to sell all the items I find when I'm gone for a long time from any city but most items you find aren't worth that much anyway (also I'm swimming in gold; selling stuff is just a habit).
