Hi everyone,

I've been playing some MM1 lately and there is something that bugs me: Do the protection from fire/cold/poison etc. spells actually do anything at all? It feels as if they had no effect whatsoever, but the enemies damage is so random that it's hard to determine this for sure.

Could it be that you have to cast them while inside of combat for them to work during the battle?
Well, they are shown in the protection screen, but they just don't seem to help much.
The spells only increase the resistance and do not actually make you entirely invulnerable. The higher the level, the more is the resistance increased. The spells also only last a day. It doesn't really make a difference as to where you cast them.

Also, AFAIK psychic protection does provide immunity to mind spells. The others just help a little bit.

To clarify, in MM1 a "day" simply means "until the next time you rest". In MM2, time actually passes and spells can run out without your party resting, but in MM1 it will last until you rest.

Yes, psychic protection is a critical spell in certain areas. I think it can protect from some types of traps too. And there are other "trap protection" spells, like levitate, which also provide complete immunity to certain types of traps.

As for the elemental protection spells, I can't say how useful they are, but I did use them pretty much constantly. I guess I just assumed they helped.
