Dsarvess: Well, as far as I'm aware, the only other source of aging in MM1 other than monster attack is going up levels.
Not true! Casting high-level spells will age the caster. That is probably what is happening. Ressurrect, for example, I believe adds 5 years to the caster's age each time it is cast. Raise Dead may also increase the caster's age. Divine Intervention may as well.

It's not too much of a problem since the Rejuvenate spell can usually bring that age down fairly easily. If you're worried, head to an inn, sign in, then cast Rejuvenate a lot. If it keeps failing and increasing your age, you can just re-load the game and hope you have better luck. But I've usually been able to get a net age decrease from repeated casts.

There's another way to reverse aging in the game too, but it's hard to reach, to the point that I had finished the game and still hadn't been able to get there.

Huh! I was totally unaware of that! guess I used low-level spells & save-scumming too much to notice that.

Thanks for the clarification!
Waltorious you're right. It's the divine intervention that's the culprit.

It's too bad, because it's one of my favorite spells.

The spells are a bit weird. There are some spells of which I'd expect higher versions to be present, but there aren't. e.g leather skin. You'd think there'd be iron skin or stone skin later.... Also cleric's pure healing spells stop @ level 2 for 16HP. There is nothing further on (6-1 and 7-1 do some healing but only work in combat and are not pure healing spells). There is 1-6 but that is not good value for spell points and uses gems (useful in emergencies though). Also, a lot of cleric spells need to be outdoors to work, and it's the dungeons usually that have the difficult fights...

I got to the hourglass a few times. The dinos can be defeated using lots of skill potions for fighters and sorceress (fireball/lightning). Some run away straight away and the rest can be taken out. I did it a few times before but now I find it too much of a bother and just cast rejuvenate.

EDIT:

I've reached sort of a dead end now. Finished a major part of the quest for a disappointing 10k and the only clues on how to proceed are "remeber BJ".
The aliens mentioned that one of the three nobles is a fraud. Which would be supported by the clue BJ (all castles are in areas B, and J must refer to which one it is)...
The obvious answer seems lord hacker, but knowing games, the obvious answer is probably wrong, and it's one of the "good" lords. If J=10 (10th letter of alphabet) then Inspectron's castle is at y-coordinate 10. Ironfists castle is at x-coordinate 9 (which is 10th if we count from 0). And hacker's castle is at coordinates (11,2) which is *very* close to BJ (B=2, J=10) and seem to point all the more in his direction.
Talking to any of them yields no results.

I'm off to do more exploring, since a lot of the outdoor areas are not yet explored (swamps in south east and sea in south west + a few others)...

Please *don't* spoil me yet. I'll be back if/when I'm really stuck.

Moon Ray is great outdoors since it heals everybody, so it's a good way to bring multiple characters back from unconscious status. Power Cure gets a lot more useful late in the game when you have a lot of SP and a lot of gems, as it can bring a character back from unconscious to almost fine quite quickly. I typically use the level 2 healing spell multiple times after fights if I don't want to rest just to top everyone off, or during fights when my characters aren't hurt too badly.

Don't be afraid of using Divine Intervention though. It's very useful in tougher fights, and you can just use rejuvenate afterwards.
Reached castle Alamar. Apparently being a merchant is just not good enough there. With no royal wagons lying around, I thought I'd have to kill the false lord and get a king's pass from him. Finally I decided to just etherialize my way in. Pass schmass.

Doing Alamar's quests now. I strongly suspect he could be the one the aliens are seeking, since he called me "Varnlling", just like them. But talking to the aliens doesn't bring me anywehre.

I'm beginning to run out of places to visit. Finished exploring castle doom, the trivia island, the monster wheel island and the cave behind portsmith (Ranalou). More aliens there but again talking to the aliens in E2 after visiting Ranalou does nothing new.

Still left with the dragon city (that dragon convention was one tough fight. Most skill potions I ever used), og's island and the astral plane.
Found the king's pass. I must have been blind because I already played that area before, but somehow missed it. Not that it gave me anything new.

Finished the dragon city. Restored Og's sight. He told me about the prisoner in Doom castle, but I went to the prisoner and learnt nothing new from him. I already visited all the prisoners and the scales of judgment.

Only astral plane seems to be left, but before I do that I think I'll revisit all the areas in case I missed something...

Can anyone just prod me in the right direction? without giving any spoilers if possible? Thanks.

I need to take a break for a few days anyway since I'll be too busy to play.

EDIT: and I still don't know what BJ means.

The prisoner you found in castle Doom wasn't the one Og was talking about. Find the important one in the center of the castle.

ZFR: EDIT: and I still don't know what BJ means.
It relates to a "volcano god". And these forums seem to lack a "spoiler" tag, even though that's so oblique a reference I don't think it could be considered a spoiler unless you already knew what it was talking about. :|
Finished it. I missed the volcano entrance somehow before, and once i realized castle doom should be reached from land and not from ranalou's portal it became easy.

(by the way, that secret entrance to doom is really too easy to find, because (15,7) is the starting point, so it's hard to reach Doom *without* starting from there (unless like me, you just take portals...)
