I have installed the GOG version of MM7 and it launches without crashing but the first screen I get to after the opening cinematic (which plays smoothly with sound) is just a black screen with some colours in the top left corner (see attached screen shot) and the opening music playing.

I have tried reinstalling the game, installing the greyface patch, hundreds of combinations in windows compatibility and all the combinations of MM7's setup options.

Has anyone else had a similar issue and found a solution, if so I'd be very grateful of the help.

What OS and specs (graphics card)?

If you haven't done so already, try contacting support.
Sorry should of specified I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and I have a Nvidia GTX 660ti but when I try to run hardware accelerated it just crashes so I've been running software accelerated anyway.

(I realise that may be a dumb comment not sure what software accelerated really is...)

I'm also running a dual monitor set up, but I still got the same error after a reset with one monitor unplugged and all my background programs set to not load. Since I was hoping to discern the interference by bringing them back one by one.

I really am stumped and haven't found anyone with a similar error anywhere. This is also not the first older game I have had suffer from the same error. So any insight as to a possible cause would be brilliant help.
Hi wmullac,

Although I realize that your post is a couple of months old, I still want to reply to you.
I have this exact issue with several older games too.

Here is a list of older games, which I have this issue with:

Diablo (+Hellfire)
Warcraft 2 BNE
StarCraft - Brood War
Atomic Bomberman
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (+Mysteries of the Sith) (GOG)
Might and Magic 7 (GOG)
Might and Magic 8 (GOG)

With the Jedi Knight ganes the issue only occurs in the actual gameplay. The menus work fine. It is solved by enabling 3D acceleration in the display settings.
The other games I can get working if I run them through DXWnd (I believe such a program is called a virtual machine)
Excepted from this are MM7 and MM8 which I cannot get to work even with DXWnd (Interestingly enough I have no problems running MM6).

I have spent many hours Googling anything about this issue, but this is the first post I have found that describes the same issue that I have, altough I don't believe it is related to GOG, but rather is a hardware compability issue.

I believe it might be related to Direct3D and the video card, but am not sure.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit and have the following video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970.

Any input from anyone who might know something would be much appreciated.

Edit: After posting this I remembered that I actually DO have small issues with MM6. This issue occurs during the cinematics, but the rest of the game works fine.

I have this issue as well. Your screenshot is exactly what I see on my computer. I also have a GeForce, but mine is a 760. That's probably the issue. Does anybody have a workaround?
Try this DX wrapper: http://dege.freeweb.hu/

Also I would recommend to set full rights for the game folder.
I have the same problem (black screen and some colors in top left)

What do i do with that wrapper? Which file to install, there are tenths on that link
