Is there a combat log for Isles of terra or Worlds of Xeen? If not how do you know combat effectiveness of weapons or spells?

I played Gates to Another World on Sega years ago and it seemed like it would let you know if you were landing hits or weapons were ineffective.

Thanks in Advance!
No, there isn't a combat log in these games (one of my main issues with these games, the others being that enemies don't respawn and the money situation in late game Xeen.

The only way to tell combat effectiveness is to look at the size of the splash, by seeing how quickly enemies die, or by using Identify Monster to see the enemy's hit points. I *think* there might be a spell or shop option to get a weapon's stats, but I don't remember for sure. If your attack misses completely (or if the enemy is immune to your weapon), there will be no splash and the sound will be different.

As you noted, MM2 (and MM1) *do* display a combat log during battle; sadly, that (rather essential IMO) feature was removed in MM3.
Thanks for the reply! I was afraid of that. I haven't been playing with the sound up, but I'll pay more attention to the splash.

If you insist on playing without sound, you do not want to play the speech version of World of Xeen, as that version defaults to not displaying dialog text.

Also (still talking about Xeen), when you enter certain areas, there will be a short cutscene with the guardian, and if you don't have the item required to enter (like a key or pass), the guard will say (in audio, not text) that you need that item. (No, it doesn't make sense that there's a guard who makes sure you have a key, but that's the way the game works.) So, if you see a short cutscene and don't end up in the area you should, you need to find the required item.
