I had problems with the volume in MM. Took me a while to find the fix but now that I figured it out I thought it might be beneficial for folks here.

In your game's directory there should be a dosboxMM1_single.conf (or equiv name depending on the game).

You'll want to add the bolded line in the autoexec section. That'll set the left and right master volume to 7% of normal. You can adjust that higher or lower for personal preference.

For MM7 (with GOG Galaxy) there is no .conf file at all...
