To anyone who has played this: Is there some sort of free roam mode without the monster? I don't know if this sounds weird to you, but sometimes i just want to quietly explore the gameworld, without the danger from enemies. So in Arma 2, for example, i sometimes drop myself in an empty gameworld via the editor and drive or walk around and enjoy the sights. It would be nice if this would be possible here, as the island looks quite beautiful, judging by the trailers.

I am sorry, but i cant help. But i am searching for some option to turn of the Monster, too. It annoys me to die, not because i jumped of a cliff or starved or something else which is my own fault, but because of this stupid Cat, which don´t want me to cartograph the Island.

The Atmosphere is great until now, and i dont need something that wants to kill me to like a game.
Yeah that would be a nice option. The tension that comes with the creature is kinda cool but I can't help but feel that it was something that was just put in to inject a more traditional form of "challenge" into the game.
I'd love to know if it was in the original concept. Everything in this game seems so well thought out and lovingly crafted, but the creature to me seems less so.
I've been playing for 2 and a half, maybe 3 hours and only encountered the creature twice... at the same spot and within minutes. It was pretty easy to hide from it even after it saw me. But its path finding was far from perfect, it kept running in circles and wouldn't (couldn't ?) leave so I tried to lure it towards me hoping that would do the trick, but I slipped and it reached me. I thought that was it but the hit didn't kill me and the creature left (well, I ran like hell but it didn't try to follow me).

So it seems most of the time you're free to explore as you please and the creature is just a minor annoyance, unless it gets smarter as the game progresses, which I higly doubt.

The "running in circles" thing is a bug that some people have been encountering. Hopefully it will be fixed in a patch.

And yeah, supposedly the creature gets more deadly as the game progresses. More intent on killing you.

I'm beginning to wonder if it is indeed a bug or just shitty pathfinding. Almost every time the fucking thing won't find its way out. Unlike some players I didn't want to have a beast-free mode, otherwise there's no sense of danger, but I'm really starting to think this might actually be a good idea.

The developers have stated (in reference to a similar issue) that they aren't sure why the creature acts like that, but they'll be looking into fixing it. It might be one of the bug fixes in the upcoming patch. I encountered the bug once, maybe twice, and both times it was because I ended up in some location that he couldn't get to (in a cabin, across a deep section of water, etc). So I know it doesn't happen every time, because mostly the AI has been scarily persistent and intelligent when I've encountered it. Where exactly have you had the problem occur?

On a related note, they've said they're going to tweak the frequency of spawning.

Pretty much anywhere, but especially when I'm near the ocean. I don't know if it's just bad luck but that's precisely where the creature finds me most of the time. I can barely remember encounters where it left normally.

Hmm. That's really unfortunate, actually. It may have to do with pathfinding issues related to water (as I said, it happend to me once when I was on an island it couldn't get to). Or it may just be really bad luck. Either way, if it's ruining your enjoyment of the game, I'd suggest waiting for the patch that's supposed to come out this week to see if they fix it, or at least make it better. Because yeah, that sort of thing can really ruin the experience.

Don't think I'll be able to wait that long with no guarantee it'll fix things, the game is just too good even with this VERY annoying issue.
