I do not want steam and do not have windows. So, I would like to know.
I've been playing Metro Last Light Redux on wine 2.21 staging through PlayOnLinux. There are visual gllitches and is necessary install xact_jun2010 to fix some sound problems. I haven't found anything that break the progress but you have to see for yourself if is tolerable.

I'm using wine-staging 5.22 32/64-bit combo and the visual is pretty much perfect to play.

The only problem is sound: High-pitched noise. I tried native directx Jun2010 x64 with xaudio, xactengine, x3daudio, xapofx override, but none of them helps.

I searched the Steam forum and it seems the problem originally occurs in MS Windows, something to do with 7.1 channel audio being selected or USB/bluetooth headset confusing the audio configuration or something.

Anyone found a solution to high-pitched noise in wine? Otherwise I don't have any problem playing the game with sound completely muted and turning on the subtitles to read the speech.

Also, it looks like they have Linux native version but GoG does not carry that. Hope to see Linux native soon.

I've found this reference to How to Play Metro games on Wine.

The report says that the game requires xaudo2_7. Maybe this can help you.
