Hello,

Since I got this game this afternoon I tried multiple times to start it and even have removed the game and reinstalled it in case the downloaded files had been somehow corrupted but I never get to see the starting screen.

The first time the screen turned completely white and remained that way and in later attempts the screen is just black.

There is an indication that something was being loaded as I started the game as the mouse pointer goes from hourglass/running icon to mouse pointer but I never see what it could be.

I have been following the technical problem thread in the Steam forum and others seem to have the same problem as I have.
I even tried downloading the exe that had been put online but that is for Steam releases only.

Is any patch for the GOG version in the work?

I had this problem myself, I managed to solve it by pulling up the game in GoG and going to the Settings menu under More.

From there, check "Add command line arguments" and in the text box below it add "-windowed" (without the quotes) Then try starting the game and it should run fine! After you load into the main menu you can navigate to the display settings and change the fullscreen mode to borderless. Regrettably you'll have to do this every time you launch the game, but it's a good enough workaround until a patch fixes it.

I've heard of random crashes as well but haven't personally had it happen myself yet though I've only put about 3-ish hours into the game.

How does that work? I have never done that before.
Does this require GOG Galaxy?
You don't actually need GoG Galaxy, but it'll be easier to explain how to do it there, so I'm going to use that. Here's a quick 2 image tutorial!

First, you go to the game in GoG Galaxy and go here as shown: Then you click the checkbox and enter the text shown in the textbox below it here: Then you can click the play button and it should work! Like I said the game will run in windowed mode but after you get to the main menu in the game you can go to the display options and change it back to borderless (I haven't tried fullscreen, it may not work since this mode is what caused the crash on startup in the first place). Again, the game will open in windowed mode every time you start it, but this workaround will at least let you play it until it's patched.

I don't have GOG galaxy on my computer and I rather don't put it on.
Is there an alternative solution?

Just add the "-windowed" to the games shortcut (meaning the target field)?

https://windows.tips.net/T010869_Changing_Shortcut_Properties.html

The shortcut is in the installation folder ("Launch Metal Wolf Chaos XD Game"), and make sure you add a space before the command, and with no quotes.
Hmm, that does make it slightly more difficult but I'll see if I can help!

Well, the alternative would be to make a shortcut to the game's .exe file (In this case that would be wilson.exe in the install directory), and append the command line argument to the "Target" in the shortcut's properties like so:
Gave the suggestions you offered here a try but the game still crashes during start up.

I keep getting the the message that the main exe file no longer works.
That's odd, I haven't run into that issue. Maybe some files didn't download correctly or got corrupted during download? Might try reinstalling and then try these fixes if you still get the white screen on startup.
I did. I had reinstalled the game (earlier I had been messing with an updated Exe) and then applied the solution provided here but it still doesn't work.

Just want to let you know that this worked for me! It takes about thirty seconds to load, but it works now!

Thank you soooo much!!!! No I just need to figure out why my controller isn't working for it......
Hi. Just adding another solution in case anyone goes googling because what I did I didn't find anywhere else. So my game went to white screen and in later attempts to a black screen when I tried to start a mission. A "Some driver has crashed" screen would pop up from my AMD driver software and I would hear a little bit of the mission start audio before the full crash closed the window.

If this sounds like you, the dumb thing I did to fix it after trying all other solutions like -windowed and selecting what graphics card it should use is I just unplugged my controller. That's right, the game crashed for me because I had my 360 controller plugged in at the start of the mission and when I unplugged it before starting a mission, it started just fine. I currently play mouse and keyboard but if you want to play with a controller, it can be plugged in after the start of a mission and doesn't seem to crash.

Something else to try if that stuff doesn't work. I was getting crashes when starting missions. I fixed the crashing by setting the game to only use 1 CPU core. I use Process Lasso for this, because it saves the change. But you can also just set it each time with task manager. Start the game first. Then change the affinity while its still in the menus.

Instructions on how to do it:
