Anyone else having this problem? I recently tried to play the original MSX Metal Gear but when launching the game it only goes to a black screen. There is still audio when I move the controls but it won't display or exit the game or window, it just locks in place. It doesn't even crash just stays locked into a blank black screen forcing me to manually shut down my laptop it kind of seems like it was interfering with the shut down process. It never had this problem before I even tried unloading and reloading it it still wouldn't work correctly I have all the correct drivers that are fully updated; hardware is intel 4000 graphics on windows 10.

I'm also wondering if the game is being limited cause of the "Master" collection being released on steam. I know its still being sold but I'm wondering if their gonna do to the MSX metal gear what they did to MGS2 and pull it permanently while leaving the installer in some type of broken state?

I had this problem with Metal Gear solid, the solution was to launch the exe file (not the gog launcher) using the -w option (make a link to the exe file and edit it so it will be started with -w, such as "program files/metal gear solid/mgsi.exe" -w)
It will then start in windowed mode, but with weird colors. Then you exit and start the program again without the -w option and it works (in the case of Metal Gear Solid, for MSX I don't know)

Can you explain the -w a little better. Should I be making a short cut to the exe file and it be named “program files/-w metal gear solid/msgi.exe”
Mine is starting in black screen and then shutting down. Never able to enter the game. Another note is I am playing on the legion go which I know sometimes can cause issues with widescreen.

Its been a few years since the last time I was able to play this game. After experiencing boot problems with other games, I think what would make this game boot normally may be through compatibility mode. I'm not sure what the last poster was trying to explain but last time I had a similar problem with a game was with Syberia. In that case I ran it in compatibility mode, if you go through properties you'll see a option for that. I also deleted the main shortcut on the desktop and made the main file that launches the game into the desktop shortcut that worked at least for Syberia. I only did that cause it kept trying to get me to download more drivers when going through the main desktop icon, after going through the main file launcher it worked normally.... ...Plus gog apparently hasn't updated the original Metal Gear its s till version one thats probably part of the reason its having problems booting.

No, you create a shortcut and then right click the shortcut and click "Properties". Now select "shortcut" and you should be able to edit "target". "Target" should say something like “program files/metal gear solid/msgi.exe”, and you change it to
“program files/metal gear solid/msgi.exe” -w
