It's more about just bringing your attention to little thing you probably weren't aware of. Personally, I like the codec trick, it demonstrates an understanding of player psychology and the internet won't always be available to you. Part of the reason we buy from gog.

My only issue with the Psycho Mantis solution here is what if you are going for Big Boss rank? The only way I've been able to beat Mantis on PC is just getting used to the keyboard for that one fight. When you beat him you can go back to controller. Its the only time you are sort of required to use keyboard in the entire game.
