Can somebody please tell me what's in the newest update for MW5:M? I have downloaded this thing for at least 3 times and every time it goes to 70% IT CRASHES MY ENTIRE COMPUTER!

Im playing the game on a G15 5511 and for the most part the game runs just fine, there's some slowdowns but never anything this extreme! The base game is 55g so what the hell needs a third of the entire game to download?? Is it "Shadow of Kerensky"? I have the other expansions in my copy so is it trying to fit that thing in? Do I have just a uniquely cursed copy the size of an Elemental's fist?

Im halfway tempted to uninstall and just wait for the update to be trimmed or, god help me, have it installed with the game on a new reinstall.

What the fuck is going on and how do I fix this?

I'd also like to know, that was an annoyingly large update. With my average download speed of 2 MB/s it was quite the wait.
So this is just an update for posterity: Even when I was playing another game, for some reason the update forced itself and I only noticed when it crashed my laptop again. At this point im going to uninstall MW5 and try with a fresh install in a week. Good lord what is with this update??
Apparently this update killed my hard drive and I lost all my files on it. Whatever this update has, I dont care..All I want is a clear answer for whoever has an issue and how to fix it.

I am not buying anything from Piranha Games or Good Old Games again because of this. I repeatedly told GOG Galaxy to not update and it forced an update regardless. My entire HDD is gone and so is my will to continue...
Sorry to hear your hardware was breaking down, i googled and you play on a Laptop it seems and Laptops are notoriously more fragile than desktop computers as they are mechanical flimsy and prone to overheat or run at max heat which shortens their lifespan further.

Whenever possible play on a rugged and good cooled desktop PC is the only advice i can give.
Oh, and get rid of HDDs as they are mechanical drives, shockprone and wear out over time and use SSDs instead, they may age too but have no mechanical weakness, do not use QLC Memory SSDs though, they are slow and often very cheap made - use TLC Memory Drives with a DRAM buffer, they are longlive and reliable, and never fill them up over 75% capacity as this technology needs to rewrite data constantly and without free space it can not do so making the drive fail early.

Use Laptops for work only where use of a desktop PC is inconvenient.

The latest Update is a big one that changes much stuff including a huge number of Biomes (new environments), new Cinematics, Character Models, a truckload of new Mechs etc.

This all is resulting in quite a large download - though pretty much anyone playing it feels it is worth the effort.

Hope you will sort your stuff out and come to enjoy the game finally.

Ok, im back from my dramatic shit-fit and as it turns out, the crashes caused a error code 43 (device descriptor request failure) so the external hard drive couldn't be read. So yes, I could still play it and it makes sense how a game on UE4 could have a massive update like that.

I'm just going to avoid playing, tho. Like this crashed several times and I'm not going to keep playing for a while...
in the launcher you can disable auto updates.
in the game's page click the settings button to the right of "play" -> manage installation - configure.

there's a checkbox to automatically update.

you can then manually tell it what update you want.

EDIT:

I think this is a Unreal engine update thing. Every Unreal game I own seems to do huge updates to rewrite the .pak files.

vs the small updates in some other engines that keep adding size but put new content in separate files.
